2/3 of the way to homelessness, yes. I had a house over my head, but it wasn't one that belonged to my family, and there was always the aspect of losing it entirely... plus I haven't had a place to just set out my stuff and not have the specter of moving over my head for years.
That said, it takes intentional self-degradation to allow yourself to become the typical homeless bum. Even without a house, I managed to take showers and such. :p
I don't really take others making fun of homelessness seriously either.... after all, perspective-wise, I couldn't expect other people to know what it's like.

It came really close to happening to me, had to sell a car and move in with relatives, because of JOB LOSS AND THE ECONOMY, OMG OBUMMER (i'm actually kidding on that one) and it just....isn't that funny to me. But I feel a little better (if that's the word/phrase I'm looking for) that it's not being like actually made fun of. Going to food pantries and almost having your lights cut out blows.
