Acey says:

Ahh, Pikablu. I remember that one quite fondly.

Much more recently, there were the rumors about Pokemon Trinity. Honestly, I believed those at first...and frankly, some of the concepts mentioned, such as trainer customization, are still things I wish were true.

There were quite a few lies that I believed in, but uh, I kinda forgot most. :<

The two I do remember though are both Pokemon based.

First, there was some story of how you can get into space in Emerald after waiting 100 rocket launches I think? The point of getting into space was to get Deoxys IIRC.

The other one was being able to get Jirachi on some random route, and they basically convinced me by using some silly graphics error near a water area. I think I remember spending hours trying to get it, too. ;-;

Do $mundane_task $ridiculous_number times without $extremely_common_action and something cool happens!

e.g. beat the elite 4 100 times without talking to anyone. (oh wait, you have to talk to them to fight them, welp) I think that one was common enough that Game Freak did a little nod to it: if you get the same Pokémon in the hall of fame 200 times in G/S, it changes the text to "HOF master" or something. And that's all.

And everyone knew Mew was in the grass outside Palette Town and in a secret garden behind Bill's house, the Triforce was in the Sky Temple if you could figure out how to get up there (probably involving beating the running man), and Luigi was hidden somewhere dammit.

Perhaps more interesting to me was messing with OoT's "beta quest" code and not knowing enough about the game's workings to realize that the effects are mostly just scrambled cutscenes and map settings (with a couple actual beta elements thrown in here and there) and not the slightly corrupted leftovers of some actual hidden quest that the programmers left in this broken state because they got told to cut it as they were coding it.

Did anyone here get into Banjo Kazooie when it was released? I can't remember the details, but I remember tons of rumors being spread around getting the ice key and a couple of the eggs. Damn I wanted that key...

If you guys find this kind of thing interesting, you should check out Pop Fiction. It's a monthly series dedicated to analyzing these kinds of myths, and it has a lot of information. Good stuff. I think one of the videos cites TCRF as a source.

Ah, yes, hot-swapping the carts - Stop 'N' Swop. Too bad it didn't get finished. Did they do something about that for the XBox re-release?

It didn't get finished because at the same time the Left Hand® patented hotswapping carts, the Right Hand® redesigned the console, in the process reducing memory retention time after shutdown from 10 seconds to one. :specialed:
