I want to start exploring some obscure PS2 titles. However, I'm terrible new to the whole ripping scene... so I'm wondering; is PSicture the right tool for viewing PS2 graphics/textures?
For example, I want to unearth stuff like this:
http://tcrf.net/Persona_3_FES#Graphics
http://tcrf.net/Proto:Mega_Man_X:_Command_Mission#Unused_Graphics
PSX Vram is great. Anything similar to that? |

I have no idea, just try it out and see what comes up. I've wondered for the longest while why there's no Soul Calibur (1-5 and Blade) TCRF pages. Maybe you could try out seeing what Soul Calibur 2 and 3 load up in the textures as a test? I know Soul Calibur 3 might be a gold mine of unused content. See what comes up.

I found a tool called Game Graphic Studio that supports -some- PS2 formats. The program kinda sucks. :\
What I've done with Bad Boys is get savestates with PCSX2 and open them with Winrar (they're .gzipped), then open the RAM with GGD. It works surprisingly well.

I'm gonna need to look up a GGD guide. I can't get past the whole "jumbled mess" stuff.

On the subject of Game Graphic Studio, it seems to be the only tool left that can properly handle TIM2 textures when I needed it (maybe hat GGD one as well? I have yet to try tha), and of course it's not open source (as far as I know, anyway). It seems all the online documentation on the TIM2 format has disappeared :/ Does anyone know of a specification anywhere that we can use to construct different or better tools? Thanks.

Can someone link me to a decent PNG optimizer with a GUI that preserves image transparencies? It seems Irfanview screwed up the transparencies on the true color PNGs I used it with since it insists that the transparency has to be one color.

I just use pngout. You can just drag and drop the file onto the .exe and it'll optimize it automatically.

... well thanks for that but that message was supposed to go in the TCRF thread. XD Sorry.
I'm using PNGCrush now but I'll give pngout a shot.
