With all things considered, I'm pretty happy here at Jul. It is, and continues to be, my home on the internet. I mean, I've heard people talk about the "golden years" of the old Acmlm's Board, and indeed, I have a lot of fond memories of the place. However, I'm pretty fond of this place right now the way it is. Plus, there's a bunch of people here that I've known for almost half of my life, literally.

Yes, I've had my run-ins and missteps, but in the end, you grow from your mistakes, and I'm sure everyone here can relate to that. I wouldn't change anything, because even with the bad memories, I have a lot of good memories as well, and I've been kinda reflecting on that lately.

So, thanks everyone, for being such an awesome community.

I like to think of Jul as a nice little home too. And Retro as the big city down a ways from Jul. I made new friends who used to not like me, and I made new friends who I didn't even know about! Some friends were on acmlm BEFORE I was!

Well that is actually good to hear. I wasn't around during the Acmlm days so I wouldn't know if it's actually good or not (which is a shame because I only really cast judgment on my own experiences), but it is quite depressing being part of a community where everyone is treating the golden years as something that has already been and gone and not having that experience myself.

JUL can stand on it's own without Acmlm (I wouldn't post here if that wasn't the case), it has it's own ROM hacking forums and the Cutting Room Floor and all the current regulars here contribute to a close-knit community. It gets treated as an artifact though by so many Acmlm oldbies though as if JUL is just some sort of permanent refugee camp from Acmlm.

But yeah, I feel like no matter what changes on the internet, I always feel as if JUL is always going to be here and be awesome.

Given my original home forum from 2000 was full of jerks who mostly used me as a punching bag, and the other earliest forum isn't a home (but still fun to hang out at), Jul is a home on the internet of sorts for me, to.. Well, sharing that spot with my actual websites, though they and Jul share different aspects that only together form the whole that I am used to having to come back to on the internet.

...I just went into technobabble over what my "internet home" was, didn't I? Oy.

yup, pretty glad I ended up here.

It's a very gentle and safe space for people to be civil to each other. It seems like that's getting more and more rare on the internet these days.
