Those of you that were abusing it need to keep two things in mind when designing layouts: courtesy and common sense.

Courtesy: Believe it or not, there are still some people who browse the Internet on computers made a decade ago (I was one of them for many years). Web browsers--especially Firefox--tend to run very slowly when viewing pages with lots of unnecessary special effects. Opacity is very CPU-intensive and can reduce sub-1GHz machines to a painful crawl.

Common sense: This is a message board, and as such, is primarily intended to be used for the sharing of text messages. There's nothing wrong with sprucing up your text a bit, but please keep in mind that readability is the #1 priority. Tiny/extra-fancy fonts (especially fonts that might not exist on other machines), clashing/blending text and background colors, and scroll bars all detract from a post's readability, and what's the point in posting if people can't read your text?

heh, mine was only using 90% opacity, and with it's colors it was incredibly difficult to tell. Hand made too.

When it was red you could tell by looking closely. I just never took it out.

Pft, Opacity. I can make whatever layout I want without even touching it. Heck, if I wanted to get fancy, I'd make some PHP-picture thingies and link 'em all up here. But that might eat my bandwidth. Anyway, I was going to mention that I managed to raise the temperature of my CPU by 6 degrees celsius just by rapidly scrolling up and down a page where opacity layouts were being used.
