Tennessee’s so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay‘ bill died with the adjournment of the state assembly last year. But now the measure is back — with new, harsher requirements.

The bill, SB 234, still bars Tennessee teachers from discussing any facet of “non-heterosexual” sexuality with children in grades K-8. But the newest iteration also includes a provision requiring teachers or counselors to inform the parents of some students who identify themselves as LGBT.

I should move this thread, I think.

So Tennessee wants to out closet youth to their likely-incredibly-conservative parents because heteronormativity...?

I fail to see what good that does for ANYONE, especially the no-longer closeted kids who will possibly end up being psychologically or even physically abused as a result.

Move to Chicago and it probably will feel like home. I hate moving to places with few international supermarkets. I think my great aunt is Mexican (or just her husband), actually. I can't wait to go visit her in Chicago this summer.

I can sort of see where they're coming from on this, but I'm not sure it's the right approach. Taking away people's over-sized soda containers isn't going to stop people from wanting them. The ideal thing would be to educate the public on proper attitudes towards soda so that they choose for themselves not to consume so much of it. But of course, that's not going to happen because America!
