This feels like Deja vu. And that's not a good thing. Why can't the crazy people kill themselves BEFORE they go on a rampage.

This isn't like a high school, where a student goes crazy and on a rampage.

This is a madman that deliberately has gone there to kill children. It isn't a rampage. It's... I don't know what'd drive someone to do that. And I don't care.

Absolutely disgusting. It's horrible.

It's a time traveler who went there to kill the next Hitler... only he didn't know which one of the children it was; and finally he killed himself to ensure he won't be the one who becomes the hitler due to a predestination paradox.

Joking aside, there is no statement to be made that is not obvious.

I actually vomited when I heard. Then I sobbed for, like, half an hour.

This is just...I have no words to describe how horrible this is. All I can think of is those little kids dying, or losing friends to this madman.

So he decided "I'm bored of this world. I want to be famous."

So he goes to an elementary school and shoots innocent children.

Then he goes "What have I done? I'm going to go to jail forever!"

Then the coward shoots himself.

I mean, can someone say "instant ticket to Hell"?

Less that and more "saving children from the apocalypse".

I wish I were making this up.

I would hold off on believing that until it's released by the officials, they've already fucked up multiple ways today.

True that, but...

Given all the 12/21 bullshit floating around, it would not surprise me one bit if that wound up being true.

I've decided to take absolutely everything with a grain of salt until I hear it from an actual law enforcement official or otherwise important individual. The media has done nothing but screw up horribly since the start of this ordeal, as far as I'm concerned.

*BlueWhirl sighs

STOP

The insensitivity and pure cluelessness here is awesome.

Do you all even understand why these kinds of people commit these horrifying acts? It's for sheer, unaltered power. Almost all of these mass shooters in history have had some sort of inferiority complex. We as a people should not publicize these people, but rather keep these kinds of situations low key. It's highly likely that this latest massacre was inspired by the recent Clackamas Town Center shooting. So, yes, all of you criers and bawwers, all of you paranoid news spreaders, you indirectly caused the death of these 26 people.

</rant>

EDIT:

I apologize to those I offended by the preceding post. I must say that, in retrospect, I exaggerated my opinions quite a bit, and the way I worded it made me come off as insensitive, conceited, and just downright mean. It's the way I debate everything, and it wasn't appropriate considering the situation.

I leave you with this, however: Did publicizing that event not prompt him to do it? Should he have not seen the Clackamas shooting in the news, would he not have acted on impulse, and potentially have gotten helped/resolved issues?

No it is because movies and television glorify violence (especially gun violence) to the point it has become embedded into our culture, and even without guns would still result in someone killing someone else with SOMETHING (or an illegal gun).

Not only that, but getting mental help is harder than buying a gun legally.

The media isn't helping matters, but to say it is primarily their fault is incorrect.

Also as a note, there was ANOTHER school murder incident in China where the killer used a knife.

If you're looking to find a single overarching reason for why these things happen, you're not going to find one. I wouldn't want to be the fool who thought he could put such criminals in a convenient little box.

Regardless of the "why" behind the situation, it won't change what has transpired. If anything, we should focus our efforts towards aiding those who were affected; not trying to find someone or something to blame as a root cause.

Inadequate mental health system (at least for America)? I know there are some outliers in recent years (such as the perpetrator of the NIU shootings), but it seems like a lot of shootings happen because the shooter has something seriously wrong with them that the current mental health system is too slow to fully comprehend or otherwise is unable to help because the shooter has very little to no meaningful access to whatever paltry facilities needed for their specific neuroses, if their insurance (if they even have it in the first place) will cover it. Add that to the fact that it's basically easier to get a gun than it is to get help and you have the recipe for a tragic rampage.

Essentially, if mental health was taken way more seriously here (with a dash of gun control), there would be a whole lot less of these happening in the first place.

This is tragedy beyond all imagining my thoughts go out to families and victims effected by this horrible horrible tragedy.

I all for mental help as long as it not psychiatric medications such as Zoloft and riddilin etc as many have the side effects of increasing aggression, violence, homicidal and/or suicidal thoughts stuff they are meant to prevent.

Watch this video for more info.

Excuse me?

I've been on psychiatric medications for years, and you know why? It's because I'm bipolar and I would be a danger to myself if I wasn't on them. The side effects you speak of are actually quite rare. Additionally, your video is quite clearly a biased source. (Indeed, the site it links to says the following: "There are no mental illnesses or disorders. There never have been." This is downright offensive to those of us who DO suffer from mental illness.)

Maybe do some actual research next time.

Besides that, psychiatric medications do work, even if some of them don't work the way you'd think they would. Doctors use evidence-based science, not magic, to cure people--though "skeptics" like to second-guess everything in order to make wild, incorrect guesses.

That inanity aside, there's the shooting.

The shooting is another of many of the bits of things that show the problems with America's society. Given that America cannot change to address the problem one way or another, it will probably continue to be a problem until a massive cultural shift finally breaks the logjam.
