I have wanted to separate "uncompiled source code" and "unused code" for a LONG time now. Maybe we should just do it.

So I just found even more unused music in the Xbox version of Final Fight Streetwise, and I have a dilemma.

Do I either:
A) Upload the music, copyrights be damned or
B) Link to Youtube versions of the songs?

I normally wouldn't think twice but ... these ARE American songs and you know, DMCA and all that crap.

I've wanted to look into the original PS2 Kingdom Hearts (1 + 2) for a while now but all the game files are hidden even if you rip the entire disc. I know they are still there because of the size of the iso so do you have any ideas on how i could get to the files?

EDIT: If anyone knows how to view 3d models From Sonic Adventure 2 Battle it would be great, i've already searched through all textures, videos and sounds.

The recent changes page is not working in the wiki, It does not load for a long time, when it does it displays "TCRF is dead".

I decided to confirm this. It doesn't work for me either.

The wiki's not working because Tocici, our host, is being a butthole yet again. Hopefully they'll wisen up and fix this mess, preferably very soon. :/

Ok, i've started to see if there is a way to get to the files in Kingdom Hearts. I haven't got to them yet be but it should be easier now I've found out the SLUS_203.70 mentions alot of the file names. So far It looks like it uses DirectX as the world map (or wm) is an .x file.

Hi. I have some DS titles that have been released only in the US but not in Europe, but they do have placeholders for other languages. Yet said placeholders aren't exactly that interesting:

*A Monster Tale (US) : Has fr/it/sp/ge files with all the messages, but they are all replaced with TODO

*My Japanese Coach (US) : Only a single message survives in placeholder european files, It is "(DE)TEXT ERROR!" for german, replace DE with FR/SP/IT/... JP! It has a Japanese option, funnily enough. (The debug file has strings from a "My Chinese Coach" game? with french and german text... but that's off-topic)

*Radiant Historia (JP/US): Used NDS_Atlus_Packer-CUE for this one
Has empty folders for br(?), fr, ge, it, sp .. and en (the actual text is stored under the jp folder). Is this worth mentioning? It should be interesting. However, the font has no European characters.
Oh, and by the way, it has debug files in the US version:
*Under Field: a "Debugger" excel file referencing all maps in-game, including ones named 998testfield, and 999testtown. Test maps?
*Under Event: Two "Debugger" excel files, one of which seems to list exhaustively all node combinations; really well done job

Does all of this warrant articles?

I want to add a section or page on "Unused Yoshi Interactions" on the New Super Mario Bros. Wii page
Where should I put it?

As a new sub-page or new section in the main page, or should I make a new section in one of the already existent sub-pages?

EDIT:
Decided myself

I got into the onimusha: dawn of dreams files but it happens to be under the same 'curse' as Sonic adventure 2 battle, All the files in the game end up in one folder (all 9900+ of them) which understandably slows down my computer.

P.s. Do you like what i'm using as my avatar.

Edit: The Video can be played in vlc with no audio and the audio works without video in windows media player. Its kind of annoying. Do you know where i can find a sofdec plugin.

Presented without comment, from the Energy Breaker english patch readme:

To make things worse, there is loads of unused text. A lot of it is developer text, like dummy text for characters or conversations, events or places that were removed, or goofy debug comments about a staff member's pubes. No, really.

(as an aside, Energy Breaker is a gorgeous game with an extremely well-done translation and I've been meaning to play it since September and I don't know why I always forget to do these things)

Also, an idea I had based on Sanky's post reporting bot on Twitter: How about setting up the TCRF Twitter account to automatically report newly created articles*?

The account currently has just over 900 followers and I'm sure a lot of them don't check Recent Changes all the time, so this could be a good way to get some exposure for new content.

So. I've unpacked a horrible horrible game that was released on the PC, PSN and XBLA. All three ports share the same 99% of assets - graphics, music, sound, level and model data. The other 1% is the game executable for the system and other files related to the presentation (game logos for the PSN/XBLA dashboard menus.) The XBLA version has a pointless 33 MB video that I'm not sure it even uses... you know, since I don't own a 360. It's basically a game trailer.

Anyway.

Since all the unused content I found is shared between all three ports, should I just make one page and link to the system categories manually, instead of the bob?

I'd probably put PC as the system in the bob and then link the other two categories manually (you could use PS3 or 360 in the bob instead but then you'd have to choose between two equally relevant consoles, so PC seems like the better choice)

Could we get that add-on/plugin/thing that lets us easily rename/move categories? I really don't want to have to manually edit the hundreds and hundreds of "Gamecube" and "Playstation" images.

Did someone change the font style for mono-space fonts? It looks kinda funky in Windows now...

How would I go about adding a patch to the wiki?

I have a game collection for the PS2 that has a couple of dummied-out games in the disc. I managed to make them accessible again by renaming some resource files, and it worked on PCSX2. I'm in the middle of testing it on the real thing.

I'd like to release it via TCRF instead of my website since it's not a real translation patch. It's just enabling some hidden content.

Edit: And the patch worked perfectly. Now to figure out how to make it not be 1.5 MB.

How are you editing the disk? Renaming a file should make a patch of only a few bytes.

Well since I have no idea how to do this, I replaced one file with another. I can hack old console roms, not disc-based games. I never got into that stuff.

Don't worry, this stuff is real easy. It's just editing pointers, same as with console ROMs.

What's the game, and which files need to be replaced with which other files? I can get you a patch easily. (And, if you're interested in learning how to do this, I can explain the process.)
