I recall that the Monster World iv ROM had the modifications on the same ROM file instead of a separate one, but that may be very well the exception to the rule (maybe that has to do with it being also on PSN / Xbox)

Other games were altered like that, mainly to remove flashing screens for seizure concerns (Atlantis no Nazo) or censorship (PAL Super Mario RPG, Famicom detective...)

It'd be very interesting to look into these and document them. I'd say introduce a Virtual Console category including SNES/NES/Genesis games with such official mods... but we all know how well things turned out back then (empty pages with build dates). I tried something similar with the E-reader compatible games category, but I consent it is far from perfect.

Always wondered though why Super Game Boy aren't sub-categories of Game Boy games. Or the Mega-CD for that matter (even if X32 as a separate category is justified due to the huge technological leap).

Changes in VC, SuperGB, etc versions should just be a section in the game's article. There's no need for separate pages.

In this interview with Peter Molyneux, we learn that Peter leaves unique cheat codes in some of his games that, apparently, only he knows about. Worth further investigation?

I can check it out if that includes the SNES versions of Bullfrog's games, otherwise maybe someone else will

So I was just sniffing around for some GB games out of boredom, and then I stumbled upon Gekitou Power Modeller and it's translated\clearly updated version known as Power Quest. Talk about regional differences!

Left: Gekitou Power Modeller
Right: Power Quest

EVERYTHING has been given a Game Boy Color makeover. Character sprites, battle sprites, all either simply colorized or heavily edited from their Power Modeller counterparts.

In addition, I noted some gameplay differences. Power Quest is generally more difficult, and the player starts with all of their Model's special moves straight out of the gate, rather than having to purchase each individually as they did in Power Modeller.

Power Quest also includes a "1P" option, which is a standard fighting game Arcade mode deal, Power Modeller only has an option for Link Cable battles.

Wikipedia also mentions that the game's script was somewhat modified in the localized release, and that the game's original developer, Japan System Supply, was given credit in the localized release. I can note that there certainly is a lot of scripting, as the game opens to a language select, though the game was apparently never released in European territories (Wikipedia does not list a EU release date).

It was, I remember seeing it in stores and almost buying it.

ICEknight's right, a quick check of eBay.de shows some 10+ results, those with actual, non-stock photos showing European cartridges ("THIS SIDE OUT" text in three languages; game ID DMG-APQP-E??, with E?? likely being EUR).

Are hardware equally documented as software at TCRF? This Mickey Mouse insignia apparently shows up on one of Capcom's games on the character.

Likely the Europe release was for limited countries. I've never seen a UKV cartridge...

Its US and EU rom checksums *are* indeed different, despite that language select. But I don't know what if anything was changed.

That's not Mickey Mouse; the same "insignia" appears on every Nintendo-produced NES-CN-ROM-256-05 board. The "ears" are actually vias (holes that connect traces on either side of the board), while the "head" is a jumper pad. The fact that it resembles Mickey Mouse is purely coincidental.

I've added brief mention of Pokemon Emerald region differences. Japan had e-Reader content, and the beginning's moving company Slakoth incorrectly play Machoke's sound effect (they were Machoke in Ruby/Sapphire).

I'm actually surprised, that nobody mentioned the decorations of the stages of Super Smash Bros Brawl, that are out of camera view at normal means.

Yeah. They definitely qualify, but how are they classified? graphics? areas? what?
If anyone wants to add it to the article, here are unseen off-screen things in stages:

*Eldin Bridge has the big portals on the two sides of the bridge, along with most of the geometry of the area landscape lifted from Twilight Princess. They are not visible.
*Green Hills has the background paths extending far longer than they should off-screen.
*Onett has two tunnels on each side of the road.
*Pianta Town has a little group of islands with pipes from the game that can be seen if you rotate the camera so that it faces the screen instead of the level. It is also one of the only areas in Brawl where the level features like the sea and the skybox extends correctly in full 360° (In other stages, there is simply a black void).
*Luigi Mansion bottom area of the level is surprisingly detailed
*a lot more little things

I do recall on a side note that I managed to gitch Sonic Grenerations PC on the third boss battle with Egmann by strafing to the far left on the curved wall until I reached where the 2D camera section begins, and I just clipped through and fell: Surprisingly, they modeled the HUGE cave with lava underneath in fairly extensive detail. Dunno If you can miss with the DirectX camera to do someting similar..

(BTW The Steam PC version has revisional differences: a v1.1 released in January to fix the slowdown in Chemical Plant. But since it is a multiplatform article, I can't add it...)

(Also, does the Sonic 4 Ep 1 Wiiware beta version, whch has 2 different levels, count as prototype? It WAS released in Japan (by error)... and the same applies to the accidental Steam upload of a beta version (called Beta8) of Ep 2, where some textures missing and where pressing alphanumeric "0" gives you +99 rings... )

The same interensting things being only viewable with Free Camera applies for Wario Ware Wii. Tales of Symphonia, and Tales of Graces to a lesser degree, also counts.

Wonder why such details about off-screen stuff are not allowed here...

I agree that hidden things should be added to the wiki. Especially since some have this already.

Speaking of that, anyone know how to get it running on a 4.3U Wii? I'm just now getting into Wii hacking and I don't know how to change the region of a given WAD. I was able to install it but it wouldn't run.

OK then. You could also have it emulated on Dolphin, so that you don't run the risk of having your Wii bricked (since it is JPN region).
I agree with you about that, but it is nothing compared to that pinball level OMG that maddening music.

About the minecart level: I think there was a spot where you could jump on some flying enemies to reach an upper path. Never pulled it off though, does anyone know about it? BTW, I heard they included these levels in the iPhone port, anyone has details?

I can't confirm if the game originated as an iPhone game before going all consoles(There are Casino billboard textures with the name "SONIC THE PORTABLE" at least on the Wii) but the minecart level and a "beat this score in a pinball table" level were originally planned for all versions. Can't say how well or not they work on the iPhone with the intended tilting screen effect or if they simply wanted to make "TWO EXCLUSIVE ACTS" a reason to buy it multiple times.

People didn't really react well to the minecart especially as well as the pinball level, which didn't work well with Sonic 4's odd physics, so they delayed the game a bit, fixed up a few things like how the menus worked and replaced both levels with different ones. Casino Street got a standard level with a card gimmick and Lost Labyrinth got a level with torch puzzles and more traditional DKC style minecarts, while the portables essentially got the original version of Sonic 4 which was pretty much done, not updated to match the delayed console versions.

Then that version got released in Japan on the Wii instead of the newer one for a short time, because Sega didn't leak the game enough already.

Another SNES debug mode that uses the mouse (more extensively this time). Also it has a screensaver and some other goofy stuff

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
