I was thinking when looking at my Amazon associate account that because TCRF was a site that looks into videogames it could have a chance to make a bit of money by linking to the product page of each game since you get some of the profit of anything anyone buys after clicking your link. The only problem would be how to set up the account (probably Xkeeper since he IS the owner... i think) and what the profit (if any)would be used for. What are your ideas?

THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR IS SELLING OUT

I'd be okay with this, actually.

I would prefer we stick with Project Wonderful alone, unless the hosting costs skyrocket. I'm not a fan of any other advertising/affiliate services.

I'm talking about Text Links not Banners. My Idea is that they'd go underneath the game description. Simple Example:

[Insert Small Game Description Here]

Buy this Game from Amazon Here. (Either the whole sentence or just the here could be the link)

Since it only really means adding a sentence to each of the articles i personally don't see anything wrong with it.

Honestly if we were going to do that we could just add it to the game standard infobox with "Search Amazon->" or smth.

I'd be fine with it. Xkeeper has probably earned a bit for the hookers and blow fund.

The combined total of Jul and TCRF (not that they are separate, mind) is barely over $150 for several months, so not really a lot. (It averages $0.50/day usually.)

As a test i will put my link onto 1 of the featured pages for a week and then report back here on how many people clicked the links and how many people bought the item (if any). After that you can decide if you want to do this to all the articles (with your link of course).

Don't do that. Featured articles are to show the best of the wiki, not to put random crap in them for testing (much less advertising). Let the staff decide whatever they see fit.

Also, personally I'd rather stick with PW too. We don't want to litter the place with ads, that'd be annoying. And specially something as intrusive as links that appear along the game's content for a "feature" that anyone can do anyways.

Like, if someone wants to buy the game from amazon, they just can. If someone wants to throw money at us, they just can. It's unnecessary, and it's not like there's some sort of target audience that you know will be looking to buy games conveniently anyways, I'm betting the majority of people who come aren't interested in buying the game, so it's just a pointless addition.
Meanwhile, PW offers a way of raising money, and it's something that targets everyone. And it's separated from the rest of everything.

Building on this idea a bit, I think that an Amazon Carousel Widget would actually be a worthwhile addition to TCRF. It'd stick out enough to not be confused with other features on the page (like the text link would), while still blending in and being useful enough as to not annoy the users. It allows you to target specific crowds by inserting keywords (i.e. "retro"), and as such you can use it to target your specific audience. Since a vast majority of the readers of TCRF have an interest in video games, you can use the carousel to really slam a niche and make a good bit of money.

I believe Ebay also offers a similar service, if it's any consolation.
