They've gone post-apocalyptic. Wifi too, that's a plus. New units include ship plane, interceptor, motorbike.
I've only ever played AW2, but this looks pretty nifty.

Ω > UAdvance Wars is likely the only reason I'd ever buy a DS.
That's about all I have to say on the matter.

The new approach is really different for the series, even if you include Battalion Wars into the mix and Famicom Wars way back in the day. While those games are silly, this one seems darker and more mature.
That's going to make it either really great or make it plummet.
As long as it has the things that keep us playing Advance Wars to begin with I'll like it.

It does look nifty. I should try AW2. I liked AW1 but I accidentally overwrote my save file -- twice -- so I don't want to attempt to beat it again.
I hope you can still turn off cutscenes like in the first one. This looks like it could be fun. |

| | I somewhat don't like the battle animations. It looks like... paper to me. Maybe it just looks better, when you actually see your tanks rolling into place and blasting the enemy into tiny pieces.

Like in Advance Wars 1, where tank and any other direct combat units come into the screen, hearing the move sound effect, then blasting everything into pieces (A-Air vs. Infantry *cough*) ?
As for me, I like the battle scenes from the trailer, split up between both screens, whereas I didn't like these full-sized anime-style characters. While this game is meant to be fun and (war) should not be too seriously here, I liked it the way AW 1 did it. The characters looked somehow childish, but the game was great fun for all people(ages) |

I'm both excited and terrified what this new AW game will bring.
And how much effort it'll take me to write the CO Stats FAQ...again. |

I loved the bright and friendly atmosphere of the older Advance Wars games too. Hopefully this serious atmosphere won't kill the game; still, I'll wait to play it before saying anything definitively.
Also, meteors make me think Sturm

I kinda like the change in atmosphere, although it shouldn't overdo it. Aside, it looks pretty much like standard AW fare, just post-apocalyptic, which is fine. I really like the new look they gave the menus, though. I can see what you mean about the paper, although I like the slight style change.

Wow. This one looks like I'll actually have to pick it up when it comes out. I kinda played the older ones, but I never really got into them.
