The higher aspect ratio makes it impossible to play correctly as it goes greyer and greyer, but the higher aspect increases vertical stacking too from what I experienced.

It is very hard to see, but still possible to make enough rows for it to end.

Also I am sure the piece generator is biased against you to an extent. Obviously not to the point where it is impossible to make new lines, but there is something tricky there going on.
After a point it seems to actively hesitate to give you pieces that will get you more than one line, frequently going on long streaks without giving specific pieces (until you give up and use something else, at which point it gets generated)
That, or a side effect of my terrible luck.

In my play I got to around 0.5 aspect and then got tired and stopped, I got a consistent useful piece thing going on, and if I didn't I would stack to square. I also had one mistake way at the start. But it usually gave me pieces when I needed them!

Maybe it's user biased! IT SEES YOUR HUNGRY SOUL!

Then, neither the bird heralding of its hatred, nor its scaling down to 0.17 (though that's by the time it was over, mostly it was at ~0.20), nor any of its other attempts of frustration, were enough to stop me.

Foolish game. I am a mad goddess of eternal endurance, "futility" means nothing to me!



Anyways, mostly I stacked the useless pieces in rectangular structures (which actually increase the aspect ratio with height). Though at a point I stopped caring and just littered the space around them.
I guess you could try to keep the lowest aspect ratio possible by placing all the pieces near the floor. But that's silly.

You might be right though; At this point I broke the game, or something did. I accidentally hit a button on the keyboard which brought forth a popup. Confirming the popup a few times caused the game to repeatedly go into pause mode, which I undid, but then the game logic was broken. The piece would not fall down. Pressing left or right would make it zoom quickly horizontally, but it would not rotate or fall. Hitting esc brought forth the pause again, and it could not be unpaused anymore by clicking the window.

EDIT: After a certain point, it feels as though the objective of the game changes.



Oh, and I love this NES arrangement of the Slavonic march.

EDIT: Who figures out what determines the point where the eagle cry comes?

EDIT: Re: Bastet... Me thinks the game is a little biased. ;-)

Sure, you can kill anyone's game by giving S and Z pieces in an alternating succession.
P.S. What Bastet really needs is the 20G mode.

Happens. Returns to normal sometimes. It doesn't really make it particularly easier to get a really high score, though.

And this one is just uninteresting. Bastet mixes things up and is in the end playable. You get a huge amount of S and Z pieces but you get enough not that that you can play to see how many lines you can complete; I think it's pretty fun.

This is pretty cool, but I feel that "being able to count on every piece showing up" makes it too much like Vanilla Tetris. It's certainly an interesting mind game, but Bastet forcing you to approach the game from a rather different mindset is something I very much like, since in the end it requires quite different strategies in order to do well.

If that is a problem, you may want to crank the game up to level 2. It doubles the piece queue length, enabling a worst case of 5 consecutive Z pieces and 26 pieces before the desired one appears. (26 pieces corresponds to 11 more than almost-filled rows).

Okay, I'm now much more okay with this game. This is now awesome.

But, um, rather than having it go up in levels, do you think you could just have a couple switches to change options? I may be interested in playing with gravity or automatic drop, but perhaps still want a "next" display. Maybe.

Edit: Ehm. At level 2, my game statistics right now are I=1, O=7, T=4, S=7, J=6, Z=7, L=4. I'm not sure this is quite right.
