I approve of this idea, though said videos would need to be hosted on-site, which could become a major problem if we don't have the videos available for torrent. We could get around this problem by having the audio track as a separate file, but that'd still be more effort than it's really worth.

I could be missing something blatantly obvious, like videos hosted on sites such as SDA, but if they aren't then we could run into some problems.

I guess only if they're hosted on Youtube it'd be an issue. Modern video container formats allow for multiple tracks.

Oh, and I vote for a rule mandating the use of hacks that disable those goddamn health alarms.

Then you might as well just use a whole second video with both commentary and gameplay.

If you're already gonna have two videos then you might as well make it simple and less prone to failure.

Those YouTube doublers have a habit of not syncing up all the time, and making sure that two videos load correctly is just extra hassle.

I was actually surprised that the low health alarms were actually a thing that people got annoyed over when I first heard of it.

I'd love not to have to hear those low health alarms in TASes that use that.

I'd also love to see TASVideos appoint someone who can actually handle dissent, but that's like asking the cold I have to go away--not gonna happen in a timely fashion.

Well, my cold should go away, at least.

Why would it surprise you that a constant, ear grating repetitive sound would annoy people?

If it annoyed no-one, would anyone even care to heal?

I already have the health bar to alert me to the problem, and not dying as incentive to fix it. I don't need a constant blaring alarm ruining the soundtrack. Especially when I have no way to heal anyway, or still more health than I need for what I'm doing.

Some games will play a warning sound once per hit on low health, or when you enter a room. Mario 64 just had Mario pant (unless you were in water, even just on the surface). That's plenty of warning without being annoying.

It's worse in TAS because players will remain at low health for extended periods before using death as a shortcut. In Pokemon the alarm actually cuts some animations short, so people will leave it running for long times. And when you're watching the video (or making it, even) it serves absolutely no purpose.

Keep in mind that the N64 is more capable than some other systems - you can't exactly have Link doing the same thing (well, similar, since having him pant like Mario would be REALLY unfitting) in any of the NES games, for example.

Well, that's still no reason to have a constant sound going on.

(reminds me, Link pants in OoT too...)

It's only annoying when I have no healing items and far from any healing areas. Then again, I play Pokemon with the sound on low or off when I go into battle every other step. Kinda kills my mojo when the music atops and starts inbetween encounters.
