Just received 274 electoral votes a few minutes ago.

Congrats to him.

Agreed. I'm glad to hear Obama came out on top again.

On another note, have this little thing

Not only that, but it looks like Maryland, Maine, and Washington state legalized gay marriage by referendum. Minnesota also might have rejected a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

That, and Denver's legalized recreational use of marijuana, even if that's a much smaller-scale thing, but still

What, you mean full-out legalization and not just decriminalization or legalization for medical purposes?

Because if so, then... Huh. That's really neat.

There's still some votes left to be counted, but it's pretty much guaranteed. A few hours ago, I was worried Romney might actually win.

So happy!

So Washington and Colorado legalized pot. But Oregon? We said no. That's funny considering you can't walk through Ashland or Portland without smelling a giant cloud of pot smoke.

Not that I care, I wouldn't smoke it if it were legal, anyway. It just blows that we missed a great tax opportunity...

It's 2 AM now, but I don't care. It was worth staying up to hear Obama's speech.

I kind of have gigglefits at the Republicans who are so heavily about their side and can't step back and admit defeat.

Signs of a working system, baby! Wouldn't be America without someone getting totally butthurt (and being able to) over silly things!

I was surprised at the graciousness of Romney's concession speech given how nasty his campaign was, but it was good. Insincere, but good. I just hope that his supporters actually take to heart his call to work together for the good of the country now.

And Obama's speech... it was just awesome. I loved the paraphrasing of Kennedy's "It's not what your country can do for you" quote, as I felt it was very fitting for our current situation.

And congrats to all the newly elected members of the House and Senate (particularly the democrats). Seeing the rape apologists like Akin and Murdoch get defeated made my night and I think showed the country that you don't fuck with women's rights.

A HUGE congrats to Maine, Maryland, Washington, and Minnesota on siding with equality. And another to Wisconsin for electing the first openly gay woman to Congress! Kudos to Colorado, Washington, and Massachusetts for the amendments on pot. Boo on California for keeping the death penalty (though if they actually enforced it I would boo less)... though I hope that the repeal of Prop 8 (the gay marriage ban) will go more smoothly now that the tide has clearly started to turn in the other direction.

Small note...

Out of Americans 18-29 or so, obviously they voted mostly Obama and Romney... but...

Like 3% of them voted other. Which gives me hope that one day in the distant future, third party voting will actually be a worthy endeavor.

All that can do is help raise the standards of those who campaign for office.
