Nice, it'd be better if I understood what he was saying, but still, looks great, the new geo-block things and tower attacks especially look interesting.

The only Disgaea-similar game that I played was "Phantom Brave". But I diddnt really enjoy it, nor did I enjoy any of the Disgea series for some reason.

It does look promising, I will give it that.

That game is hard as fuck.

Disgaea 3 does look awesome though. A lot of the moves made me wonder what the hell was going on (the lifting attacks were really wtf) and a lot of it was really cool. The classroom thing looks like the Dark Assembly and what the hell with the blocks you lift.

If there is one sole reason for a PS3 for me, this is it. Otherwise, a PS3 will never be seen in my house.

Of course, getting a system for one game may seem pointless, but the Disgaea series is the only series I've ever had the will to play more than 100 hours on.

TOTALLY AGREED.

It got me seriously pissed off sometimes, and I got VERY lucky on the final boss. I had him attack 2 of my weakest characters (To which he killed in one hit) and had the rest of my party try their best to take him down.

It took MANY times, but eventually I got the hang of it, and finally won.

The next day I traded it in...diddnt get much from it tho

I love this series -- this is my favorite of the Nippon Ichi Games. I have both Disgaea and Disgaea 2. The only thing I have trouble doing are the tower moves. Building up your characters to level 9999, getting insane stats (the stats were more insane in Disgaea 2 than in the first one, so I can only image what they'll be like in the 3rd one), and buying weapons that cost 60+ million HL were the most fun parts of the game. I still playing D2, trying to open up the Dark World levels and get to the Land of Carnage.

I got a PS3 so I wouldn't have to monkey with memory cards as much. Worth every last cent for the backwards compatibility alone, IMHO. Also only major console or handheld this gen which runs Chrono Trigger without both piracy and homebrew. Neither the Wii, Xbox 360, DS, or PSP do.

But I digress. Something doesn't seem right about Disgaea 3. Putting it on PS3 when there's little point in that, having no sign of returning characters that I'm aware, and isn't the texture quality on polygons kind of weak?

Be glad you didn't see the post-game. If you think the final boss was frustrating...well...it was the first game I ever put down of the NIS series after getting to the -third- Laharl fight and getting my ass kicked.

I'm sure that many people here HAVE NOT played the game that started the series on its way on the PSX.

Rhapsody. I still haven't finished it but it's easy even on Hardest mode.

Like cpu, it'd be the sole reason to push me over the edge and buy a PS3. I still haven't completely finished 2, though (story sure, postgame somewhat).

I don't see the problem in keeping a PS2 around for that purpose, myself.

(or better yet, a REAL SNES with a REAL Chrono Trigger cart )

Yes, but considering it took me 15 years to find Super Castlevania IV... How many Chrono Trigger carts are likely exist around here? Exactly.

And the original Xbox hardware was scarce as **** until Halo 2 came out, finally found one in December 2004.

Sounds like you don't use the internet to buy things. (That's how I got my Chrono Trigger cart )

I don't own any of the Disgaea games, and I've never played any of them, so this isn't interesting news to me. I'm considering to get the first one, as I've heard good things from the series. :/

Okay, just a little note for those of you still wanting the series:

Rhapsody (PSX)
La Pucelle: Tactics (PS2)
Disgaea (PS2)
Phantom Brave (PS2)
Makai Kingdom (PS2)
Disgaea 2 (PS2)
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (PSP - remake/addon of Disgaea)
Disgaea 3 (PS3)

I have all but the last two.

Wow...an NIS/ATLUS title that slipped by me?

That's a bad sign no matter how you slice it.

Better be good since now that'll make me pick it up soon.

It's like SRW and fire emblem fused with nippon ichi. It's not as good as disgaea but it's an good try at a new game genre. I would say it's worth the purchase.

I think I played Rhapsody. Although im not 100% sure, I have a bunch of PSx games that run off of either Bleem or a modded PS2 that I own.

*After Checking* No I do not, I was thinking of the Band- Rhapsody

PS, Ω Hiryuu, After reading your post, a friend of mine who was sitting near me totally agreed with you. And made me intrigued to play some of the Disgaea games more now.

Whats the difference between Phantom Brave and Disgaea?

Phantom Brave is much harder than Disgaea for starters and less fun at that. It also uses a free-move system (akin to Makai Kingdom) whereas Disgaea is always grid based set by MOV for how far you can go.

Phantom Brave also has an annoying aspect of having to summon characters instead of creating your own to stay with you. You only have one normal character that never fades and she's really not that good. The rest of the character usually last 4 or so turns and then that's it...which forces you to go through and kill the whole map off as quickly as possible, which kills the fun. In Disgaea, you don't have that. If you die, you die. In Phantom Brave, if you don't die from being overly destroyed, then fading will end you.

If you've played Phantom Brave, then you likely started off on -the worse- game of the series by far. Disgaea is a welcome change from that.
