Honestly, they've always been pretty bad, as far as I can tell. I never check the comments section anymore, because 9 times out of 10 it's some guy trying to get attention with a thumbs up comment.

And it's worse, because people actually thumbs it up sometimes.

Yeah, the actual content of youtube video comments is USUALLY a waste of time. I was just talking about the setup

That being said, if you're watching some channel that has a decent community you can usually get some interesting reads from the comments.

It really depends on what the video is, I guess. There have been a few videos I've seen where I was actually far more interested in the comment sections than the videos themselves.

But I do like the way replies are handled now. It's nice to be able to click and easily see what the person is replying to. I used ctrl + f all the time on that site and spend way more time than I needed to to read something that was almost always a complete waste of time.

It's not, that's kinda terrible and is how it has been for a while.
But the new beta thing is threading my new comment (see first two comments in the image) in a decently good manner. It's having trouble threading the old comments though.
