@Celux:
Here's what the japanese screen says:

B - Enough already
Z - Remove/show message"

Not to beat this dead horse again, but that is the wrong thing to do. The right thing is to convert non‐ASCII characters to HTML numeric character references (with a tool like this one).

But it is the right thing to do. When you set your browser to Windows-1252, it'll convert things to HTML entities automatically. Go ahead and try it.

No, it only converts characters that don’t exist in Win‐1252. That is the wrong thing to do.

The board is Windows-1252, whether you like it or not.

No, the board is completely encoding‐agnostic. Hence why everybody’s browser detects it differently. The database is ostensibly cp1252, but that really makes no difference in what can be stored or how it gets displayed (case in point).

The safe thing on Jul is to use HTML character references for everything. Using win‐1252 in posts will only make the eventual Unicode transition harder (mostly due to MySQL being stupid and silently truncating fields for no reason). And it still messes up posts when the browser autodetects differently. So please, use HTML references everywhere, and don’t switch your browser to win‐1252.

IIMarckus: I appreciate your concerns, but the argument you're having right now has no place in this thread, or even this subforum.

Here is the Help/Suggestions forum, which may better suit the disagreement you're having. I don't want a thread that's been a particularly useful resource for forumgoers to be derailed like this.

Found this image in Hyper Sports. In that game, during the triple jump event, if the player does the three jumps at 35°, 41°, and 45°, a ship will fly across the screen with a 3000 point banner. This is the same ship with a different, unused message in katakana:

That message looks like it says ヌマ. Wikipedia suggests "marsh", and my dictionary suggests "swamp". Would this make sense anywhere in the game?

Yeah, that's what I came up with too. There aren't any swamps or marshes in the game, so I have no clue what this is about. Maybe it's short for one of the staff members' names?

The first half of the debug mode from Hana no Keiji (the second half of which is in romaji and seems to have been programmed by a different person)

I really only need the text on the left of each screen translated, as the stuff on the right is just character/location names etc as far as I can tell.

Hello. I have these two files from Donkey Kong Jungle Climber:

1/ dlexpl_ch.txt
どんきーDS
たいせんで アツくなれ
ライバルたちをぶっちぎれ

2/ dlexpl_jp.txt
ドンキーコング ジャングルクライマー
ノンストップ レースバトル!
さいそくは だれだ!

Could you translate these? I find it odd there are two Japanese files.

Here's something that could use some translating. This is from Donkey Kong Land III, and the text appears when you try to buy something from Bear, but you don't have enough money.

The first problem is that I can't read some of that kanji (namely, the last character on the first line, and the two starting on the second line), because it's very small and hard to make out. This is why I'm using a screenshot, and not plain text. Knowing what the kanji says would be helpful to be able to post the proper text on the current DKL3 article.

Also, I do know that it corresponds to one of these pieces of dialogue below -- this is from the English version. But I don't know which it corresponds to. Would anyone here know? (Interestingly enough, in the English version, Bear says one of these two things below at random, but in the Japanese version, he only says that line above, every time. This is why it's being mentioned in the article in the first place.)
