Well, much like back in the ancient times of Barry Goldwater, there is a tendency for the Republican party to resort to extremes when its stranglehold on control starts to die. Not always, but currently a class of rather extreme people have the reigns.

Give it 20 years though, and if they lose their positions of power, you'll probably see a radically altered party spring up under the same name.

For other countries, they probably would only vote for Obama because they know who Obama is, heck I never even heard of Romney before this thread got made.

But yeah, since I don't know who Romney is, I can't really have an objective say on who I think should run your country.

So it's most likely for people that were expresally surveyed for this to be in the exact same situation as you are, rather than assuming they do know what are they talking about?

... Okay, sure, it is not unreasonable to think plenty of people wouldn't. Right. But you should not take that as the default, specially if you are merelly taking yourself as a reference for coming to the conclusion.

Foreign politics are a thing. Specially those of the States, as they are basically one of the central world powers. Being oblivious about these elections with the thought that it won't affect you is delusional.

Oh no, I just asked quite a few of my friends on Facebook on what did think about Mitt Romney and they haven't got a clue who he was ether. So I was sure I wasn't just speaking for myself even though I used myself for reference.

And I know the elections affect me, it's just something that is naturally of little afterthought in my country.

Doesn't help when you go overseas and manage to completely screw up a softball question, successfully offending what is quite possibly our closest ally (yes, I am referring to the olympics security question--how do you even do that?).

It just depends on what kind of people are in your circle of friends. Recently I asked a Chinese penpal of mine (who has lived all his life in China & has never come to the US) and he says he supports Obama because Romney is a nutjob, and then proceeded to explain why he disliked Romney.

So anyone else hear how Romney thinks is the best way someone can take responsibility for their lives?

Okay yeah, everyone should be able to take responsibility of their own lives, but I got legitimately upset since he basically insinuated my own dad isn't taking responsibility.

Dude, I'm the first to say that dad could have made better choices in his life, but no one fucking straight up and tells him that he's irresponsible for continuing to hold onto a warehouse job that takes him an hour to get to and back versus getting a closer, yet likely lower paying job, because the economy crashed. Just the fact that my dad continues to put up with a drive that he fucking hates just to put food on the table shows that he cares for the well-being of the household.

*shrug* I'm willing to admit dad has numerous faults, but he puts up with a lot of shit and no one can fucking mess with him by saying he's irresponsible.

Not to mention that Romney's comments also make me supposedly completely irresponsible about my life, for obvious reasons.

Seriously, fuck that guy and fuck whoever thinks Romney would make a good president.

The election is coming up pretty soon! In fact, it's less than 2 weeks away. I've already filled out my mail-in ballot, to be mailed tomorrow morning.

As I mentioned before, this is the first debate in which I really understand the issues and understand what is really at stake. This also means this is the first election in which I've had a firm and well-founded political view. I dislike it when people try to enforce their opinions on others (political or otherwise), and that is the last thing I want to do, but I'm not about to let my family vote without fully understanding what is at stake.

I'd fill out a form and vote, but I'm pretty sure that means I'll have to do jury duty :|

So, I'll just leave faith in the rest of America to not vote for Romney.

I could be wrong, I have been before. But I have faith we aren't collectively going to run America into the ground in this election.

i'm not sure how i feel about this kind of reasoning.

that's kind of the very flat, shallow, hopeless justification that might be why romney even has a fighting chance

just go out, suck it up, and vote dude. i've been up for jury duty, but i called up the courthouse every day to check my number's status and i ended up getting dropped since i guess they got 12 people

Girlfriend didn't get so lucky. Said it was a pain in the ass.

Besides, if I did vote, I'd vote Jill Stein. No chance of winning anyway.

Now, I'm not American, but I feel like saying something when we are on the subject of not voting.

If you are old enough to vote, but don't because of laziness or similar.

Then you pretty much forfeit your right to complain about the result.

You wanna be able to complain about the result? Fucking go vote.

My thoughts exactly, but I'm wondering about people who don't vote because they seriously do not think either candidate is qualified to become President.

one of the two are going to be elected
no matter if those people cry it or not

not voting isn't a very good way to protest

and honestly "protest voting"
for candidates that will never win isn't either

Voting for a third party is a much more effective protest vote than not voting.

Even if you know they can't win, you should vote for what you believe is the best, otherwise, what's the point?
