Because the focus would be on things that aren't necessarialy speedruns, disregarding optimization for the most part and encouraging mostly "theatrical" runs and exotic goals over breaking records

Also something about the games breaking apart through just clever and precise button imput.

I would deliberately avoid the term 'TAS', among other things, it implies that the site is purely dedicated to speedruns, when this may well not be the case. Perhaps 'Superplay Theater'?

Sounds like a plan, though I just thought of fanTAStic as a site name. Ah well. Too little, too late.

Kill This Game! Is something I like, though I doubt the language would work. Runs With Tools?

I'd like to see the term TAS redefined to mean "Tool Assisted Superplays" for exactly this reason.

The most entertaining TASes usually aren't true speedruns at all.

Goal: Get caught by every hooker in the game.

Seriously though, I actually like the Superplays word in it. I say we definitely use that for something in the name. Superplay Theater? Sure. I'll see if I can come up with something with a good ring to it.

Oops, I found a way to access some staff threads that doesn't involve browsing the forums. Hum.

Let's see...

I'll own up to my immaturity on the issue. I'm only human and I do my best. But when it comes to Xkeeper, I'm not going to be able to handle the situation well. He makes me VERY VERY angry, much more so than any user in the history of this site (even nineko).

Maybe if you guys would stop being so shitty, you wouldn't get so mad?

Also:

I went ahead and changed his email from xkeeper@gmail.com to NONE@NONE.NET. Please don't make this public knowledge, I'd like to see if he comes back whining about the same thing.

Oops. Sorry!

I've read this post about 4 times so far and I still can't figure out what inane troll logic he's using to try to justify bans. A no vote accomplishes nothing*, but it obviously does otherwise it wouldn't be bannable because it doesn't do anything. Yet at the same time more than one no vote (which you can't do on a single submission) somehow has an effect.

*This is true unironically; the submissions are judged exclusively by staff, votes don't matter. Voting should really just be removed.

I don't believe we should be making light of bans.

I am sending Kumquat this message.

Hi Kumquat,

While we can't specifically prevent XKeeper from participating, I will not give any credence to his participation while his ban persists. He is a banned user, and therefore not allowed to participate in any site activity.

However, that said, he knows quite well why he is banned. Additionally, unlike other troublesome users, he is not perma-banned. If he would grow up, sincerely apologize for his bullying behavior towards adelikat, he would most likely be unbanned. I doubt this will happen, he appears far too obstinate and prideful to apologize; however, I would like to be surprised. Last time I conversed with him, he appeared to have understood our position.

If you are curious yourself why he is banned, during his tenure here, he continually harped on the work done by site administrators, while providing nothing of positive value. Specifically, but not limited to, his derision towards adelikat's need for funding while providing no support, his consistent mocking of fceux bugs while, as a competent coder, providing no help to the source code maintained by volunteers, and his shitting on the workbench to prove some unnecessary point. This consistent, negative, and abusive attitude had gone too far.

Thank you for your understanding, I would like to see XKeeper return to the community as a positive force.

DarkKobold

I would like to see XKeeper return to the community as a positive force.

Kuwaga changed his post - apparently, nineko posted something to the effect of "I am a German", to which Kuwaga pointed out that a native speaker wouldn't make such grammatical errors.

At some point, I'll post all my info that shows that Noob Irdoh is nineko.

The main reason Noob Irdoh isn't banned is because he is much easier to track and prevent from having any power on the site if we know his account. If we ban him, he will simply create another account until we block spammer/proxy IP addresses (possible, but a lengthy procedure).

Ah, and where do I find the topic where he states he speaks German? In a nineko submission.

Note that Noob's English is bad before nineko is banned. His English is even bad in his profile "Steal to thief to give to poor."

More bad English:

And here, more amazing English skills! But wait... something is off about this post - over dramatizing a minor issue? Could it be? Noob Irdoh is nineko??

nineko (now Noob Irdoh, sorry for the spoiler) has a LOOOOONG history of basically gaining power at websites, and then at some point he uses that power to disrupt the site, to the best of his ability. (Thanks go to Upthorn, for warning us about him.)

"..he had a conflict with the administration over the use of certain cart scans of his on the wiki, which culminated in him leaking a private beta of Sonic Megamix, resulting in him getting banned from the forum again, and g-lined from the irc..." Source

"...Nineko asked richter to be reinstated as a judge, mainly because of his previous knowledge of this job. However, richter appointed someone else instead, and also later nominations weren't for Nineko. As a means of revenge, he changed almost every screenshot in the games database to an animated .gif file or to a photo of trampling*, as well as renaming games and screwing up system references..." Source
*trampling is the act of being stepped on for sexual gratification.

So, three things to take away from this:
#1. nineko loves to cause massive damage for revenge.
#2. Never give nineko a second chance.
#3. Sonicretro never, ever learns its lesson.

So, we knew not to give nineko ANY power at the site... however, he still managed to cause disruption.
list of nineko's submissions
Lets look at this list:
Snow Brothers: Suboptimal, crappy play.
Daedalian Opus: Long cut scenes, bad game choice.
Burger Time Deluxe: Suboptimal, crappy play, possibly bad game choice.
Sonic Competition: Suboptimal, crappy play.
Chuck Rock: Suboptimal, and horrible game choice AND incompatible with the site.*
OverTop: INTENTIONALLY chose a suboptimal vehicle. (also, probably a bad game choice)
Tetris (B mode): Suboptimal, crappy play, copped an attitude until it was proven, beaten by 30%!
*Note that he tried to hold the site hostage until his demands were met.

And then, finally:
Puzzle de Pon: Good game choice, well played...

So, it is on its way to getting accepted and published. nineko couldn't continue his parade of pretending that TASvideos was out to get him, if he had a published movie. Thus, he created drama over a user voting yes on his movie, canceled his submission and pretended to lock himself out of his account. Now, he clearly didn't lock himself out, because he had only been forum banned by adelikat at that point (this was during the transition period, and site bans hadn't yet been figured out.). Thus, he used that power to uncancel his submission. He was finally site banned, and people from sonicretro came to the IRC channel at his behest to argue that the movie was unfairly judged. See adelikat's final post in that thread as to why the movie remains canceled. (as a side note, his Chuck Rock, OverTop, and PDP submission threads are all interesting reads.)

(Additionally, since Noob Irdoh is his account, and voted 'Yes' on OverTop, I think he was angry that no one had taken the initiative to determine that he had been cheating on his submissions, creating multiple accounts, etc.)

Oh, and on PDP - From my IRC log on 5/11/2010

[19:28] TASVideoAgent> New reply by Noob Irdoh (Old: #2292: nineko's Arcade Puzzle De Pon! R! in 08:47.25): http://tasvideos.org/forum/p/234230#234230 [a:1]
[19:33] TASVideoAgent> Post DELETED by Noob Irdoh (Old: #2292: nineko's Arcade Puzzle De Pon! R! in 08:47.25): http://tasvideos.org/forum/p/234230#234230

What that post contained, no one knows. However, many people have stated that nineko was desperate to get that movie published. This is evidence of nineko attempting that as Noob Irdoh. As an aside, I'm not sure how he had done that, since adelikat had locked that thread for ages.

... Also, Noob Irdoh stopped doing encodes because we found out he was nineko. We refused to publish any movies he created.

Wow, that is a wall of text, but such an interesting and bizarre character. I couldn't write a fictional story this crazy.

Is anyone interested in me continuing this?

How did he find out? Making him aware of our finding kind of runs against the earlier stated goal of keeping him in check by taking away the incentive of creating additional accounts.

Also, am I correct that Staff forum threads are now shown in "view posts since last visit"? Because that's the main link I'm using to access the forums aside from topic subscriptions, and miss a lot of staff threads like this one as a result.

I split this off because the passive-aggressive nature of these posts is annoying me. It's clear all he's doing is running extra trials of the screenshot compression tools, besides which the screenshot which is currently there is five bytes smaller than the one he provided.

I love the irony in this. They staff a site that focuses entirely on optimization and spending extra time to make that one frame faster, and yet someone running a few more trials to crush a PNG down more is boo-hoo worthy.

Its my fault. I did not want a 'noob irdoh' splash screen on one of my TASes. There is something about how he is abusing the system (i.e. our lack of ability to ban proxies) to access the site, that gets under my skin, albeit, more than it should.

So, I told him point blank I did not want him encoding my run, and why. He created a thread, claiming his innocence. It was before I had access to the staff forums, so I simply deleted it.

(before you ask: yes, this kind of behaviour annoys me as well)

Yeah, I'm pretty angry about it. I'd like to figure out what site he is using for his proxies, so I can preemptively ban all of them.

Protip, asshat: Your bans aren't IP bans, they just set a cookie. Deleting the cookie allows access again.

* Noob Irdoh knows that you are killing yourself over him, and that feeds his addiction to remain on the site to troll you.
* There are many others on the site whose posting behavior genuinely causes harm to the TASVideos community. Behavior includes, but is not limited to, starting arguments and persisting in them. Often in conjunction with insults and flame wars, and sometimes are waged on topics that are extremely trivial or have no place on this site.

I pride myself on being able to sniff out these troll accounts, and take action to keep them off the board. The fact that he is able to continue posting, and we are nearly powerless to stop him, just kills me. On top of that, he continues to lie to us, and he has other members of the website (i.e. Flygon), lying for him. It really shouldn't bother me this much.

Anyway, I'd like to hear about other users you think are causing too much disruption, and I'm curious why you haven't brought them up before.

That's enough in my mind. If he becomes nineko part 2, ban him, and until then, just let the sleeping dog lie and pour your energy into something more productive and worthwhile.

Quoting these posts manually is hard. I should really just post the raw sql but

A double post by me is notable because there is a script that automatically bans every IP address I use, so a double post by me is technically impossible, the DB must have been having some serious problem if even that script didn't manage to run, allowing me to post from the same IP twice.

Wow, the stealth-bullshit that was mentioned here is true indeed. There's douchey, and then there's this. Good job tasvideos guys, I didn't think you could sink that low. Way to prove me wrong.

Yes, the idea was that he would run out of proxies to use. Apparently, there is an unlimited supply of proxy addresses on the web. We were hoping this would be the final nail in the coffin, to make him go away. Banning doesn't work, filters don't work.... He is like a herpes infection.

It'd take too much effort unless the volunteers actually, y'know, go do it. I'm kinda feeling at this point all these things are for kicks now. If there really is any purpose behind the acts outside of that it has since flown out the window and into a jet engine lost forever.

Also wow. Old Acmlmboard security bug or something? (EDIT: derp)

Oh hey, cool! I was talked about!

Alright. So it's probably going to sound like a bunch of insane troll logic on its own, but here's what I recollect my thought on this at the time I was no-voting things:

All videos on TASVideos are supposed to be perfect. Perfect is supposed to imply that there are absolutely no errors. At all. Ever. However, speedruns on TASVideos are obsoleted all the time, so they're not even perfect at all, because someone is going to save at least a frame or two somewhere and it's going to get tacked on. Voting "yes" on a run because it obsoleted a previous run, for example, is not a good reason why, and more often than not this fact, not how technically savvy it was to create this was a flawed argument. Sometimes a run was nixed because that was not the case (it beat the time but sucked entertainment-wise), but mostly it was pushed through without a full thought to quality. For example, I could've just beat a run and dragged my ass sloppily though a video so long as I had a good "wow" spot or three. Certainly, games that had not been done before met more of a quality criteria than one that had already been done before (i.e. it would be far easier to get a run of Mega Man 3 published than Streets of Rage 3), but even then, new games were suffering the same fate.

The second, equally important reason is how I noticed the increasingly hostile attitude on the forums and I was also protesting that. Had I actually given criticism (i.e. You just decided to ignore this three frame loss? No. You go back and find the cause and do it again. No vote.), I would have just been considered a super douchebag TASNazi and banned quicker. Was I gong to ban myself quicker? Oh hell no! When I joined back in 2004, it was a nice little community. I know things change, but it was totally changing for the worse and I really didn't like that.

My only mistake was that I got caught because I thought my votes couldn't be tracked (and I'd probably been on the radar for some time for it then if it was six months of no votes). I also tried to do my voting when I didn't see any other users around and do it quickly and then change forums I was in, so that if anyone came in and saw my username there, it wouldn't point to the Submissions forum, but instead some other forum like the NES Workbench or something.

Also, mistake on their part! It was not voting "no" to every single submission on the workbench. If they were really paying attention and cared, it was only the submissions which were 100% yes votes, which were a lot yes, but even if there was 99% votes upon me seeing it, I would have left it alone.

Therefore, all of that was a one-man protest entirely on my own with no prodding. I rarely do stuff like that because normally I don't douchebag and I'm a pretty laid-back nice guy, but this was one time when I felt it was entirely justified.

I'll come back and post when the attitude changes and people are nicer!

Someone that isn't me, because I don't know enough about the subject matter to really be any help in that area.

I don't think protests work very well if nobody gets the message.
