This is quite depressing, but it's true.
I used to be subscribed to the magazine, too. The staff are currently being moved on to other projects. Pretty soon, the last issue is going to come. |

I still have a subscription to it (my first issue had the Virtual Boy looking at BEES), but my interest in it has dimished greatly. It used to be great and full of neat stuff, but my interest in it dropped when it stopped having things like maps and custom cover illustrations, and instead got cluttered up with junk in an attempt to be more modern and hip. Nowadays, some of the charm has returned, but it's still full of month-old news. At least the developer interviews are neat, and the DSiware/3DSware reviews are handy. It'll be a shame to see it go.

I am not quite so depressed. By 2004 they had already become obsolete and Nintendo had cut back its exclusive info, so they've actually been dead for a good 8 years running already.

I still have my magazine where Doom 64 and Starfox 64 were covered. Oh, the nostalgia!
It also has a glimpse of the ill-fated Earthbound 64 in there as well. It also has a small guide for Harvest Moon!

Aw I had a subscription a few years ago and I enjoyed them. I wonder what's going to happen to console gaming; it doesn't seem like things have been going well, at least not for Nintendo. |

I agree; I just wish Nintendo wasn't so stubborn and would release their games for PC / smartphones. They make excellent games, but it does look like PC is the future. |

I've actually never played a smartphone game before! The only games I've played on my smartphone are emulated versions of GBA games. I haven't played any game whatsoever in a while .. |

Considering this is about the magazine, that's not really relevant. Unless you were actually referring to PC Gamer magazine.

SIDEWAYS SLASHNot to mention, modern game journalism centralized in popular online reviews has kinda killed all these magazines.
So... It's understandable they would no longer be interested in maintaning such a thing. Though it surprises me Nintendo of all companies is the first one to do it, given for the most part they are more into self-promotion than relying on third parties.
Still, game magazines are now a rather niche thing.

Yeah. For a long time, getting a an issue of NP didn't really mean anything, because all of the images and news were stuff that showed up on GoNintendo a month prior. It's when they added the developer interviews section that I started having something to look forward to.

When I think of Nintendo Power, I think of the older, pre-Gamecube issues. To be honest, I consider those issues to be much more interesting than the newer batch. I remember the only times I read anything outside of school was this magazine and would actually get mad at myself for reading through it all in one sitting when it arraived. I would try to pace myself and read only a few sections a day, but always failed.
All the N64 coverage was just..wow. Never have I felt so exited about any shred of info on a console. Nintendo Power was my only source for info on it and it was like crack to me.
Nintendo Power "shut down" long ago in my eyes and was a real shame. ____________________ Visit Digital Space for my game news.

Yeah, they had like five years where there wasn't really anything in Nintendo Power that you weren't learning about online ahead of time. All the developer interviews and stuff were cool, but I think by the time they really tried to include that as a bigger part of their product, most of their membership had already left.
Not to mention their primary demographic of 90's kids were growing up and slowly dropping the magazine as they aged. And the younger folks weren't subscribing because they were already accustomed to finding out everything via the internet. ____________________ |

Yeah, I was always really excited whenever the NP issue came with a small catalog of exclusive NP goodies. I still have all of the Mario plushies, including a full set of colored Yoshies.
