Paulguy's Post configuration
So yesterday I got a new controller to use on the PC that someone on zsnes forums recommended. A "PDP Xbox 360 Versus Controller" and I'm really liking it. All the buttons but start, select and xbox button use microswitches, and the controller is perfect for old console emulation, with a 6 button layout and 2 shoulder buttons. The responsiveness is extremely good, allowing me to finally be able to mockball in Super Metroid, which I couldn't do before with my old controller which is an old worn out PS1 pad connected to an adapter, and I think the adapter introduced some input lag.

Anyway, anyone else have any third party controllers they've used that are exceptional? For any decade of consoles/computers/etc and you can specify several if you want.

With my SNES ages ago I got, as my second controller, this asciipad controller. Buttons worked every bit as well as the official controllers, and it had turbo switches. Which, it turns out, were largely useless on every game I had.

Still. Good controller. In fact, the only good third-party controller I ever got. The Mad Catz controllers on the N64 were... passable... but pretty much every N64 controller sucked.

Third party? Nope, I use the Xbox 360 wired controller. It's plug and play for Windows and is supported (without tweaking) by nearly every modern pc game, especially if it's a console port. Works great for ROMs as well!

I use the wireless controller. Had to buy an adapter with it and download drivers, but it works well.

I originally tried this, though without the adapter. Couldn't for the life of me figure out what I was doing wrong, until I finally learned that the Play and Charge Kit doesn't send or receive any signals.

I picked my wired one up on eBay for $12, if I recall correctly.

I use a logitech controller

it's pretty nice cause it has a switch on the
back that allows it to either report itself as an xbox controller
or as it's normal logitech self

that's really handy cause the xbox is better for built in support

but as soon as you need to set
things up yourself logitech mode outshines it by far

my only gripe is the shoulder buttons are kinda too large

I use a PS2 controller with some 3in1 Magic Joy box adapter, then I use the X360 controller emulator to make it use the better built in support in games.

My fave PC controller for a long time was actually a Mad Cat Xbox controller (original xbox). Those things just used regular USB innards and one only had to get an unused USB cable, snap the connector part and attach it the controller and it worked beautifully on the PC.

Now, I just use a standard Xbox 360 wired controller and have had zero issues with any game or console emulator. I would like to get a more fancy multi button mouse though, like a Naga or something.
