The first character was written in such a tiny font that I can't make it out very well (่จ‚ (revise, correct) perhaps)?

I've never played the game, but a ๅ”ๅŠ›ๆŠ€ is almost certainly some kind of cooperative special attack. Chrono Trigger had these -- you combine one guy's fire attack with Chrono's spinny sword attack, etc.

So this means: "Shit, I/you can't do a cooperative attack with somebody." Needs context to be translated into normal English.

Hm. I was rooting through TWW's .blo files, which basically define where 2D images are on-screen, like the menu and the HUD. I seem to have stumbled across some strings used to test the Japanese font:

Thanks! From the what these say, it sounds like more Mario Party 1 mini-games were intended to make a comeback.

  • Exciting Pipe Lottery seems to be Pipe Maze with slightly different rules (trophies of different values instead of a treasure chest)
  • Lucky Coin Grab could be Coin Shower Flower in a different environment (with the three players previously riding leaves now riding gems), with different rules (they can fall down, which isn't possible in Coin Shower Flower).
  • Dangerous Tug of War is a 2 vs. 2 Tug o' War with different controls, due to the analog stick controversy from the first game. Its Japanese name is even identical to Mario Party's.
  • Rapid Rafting: Paddle Battle, but with altered controls, teams removed, and springs added.
  • Note Step sounds like Musical Mushroom, but with a floating note instead of a treasure chest, and a block that can be hit from below instead of the titular mushroom. The latter change would make the game less one-sided.
  • Treasure Diving: Identical to Treasure Divers from Mario Party.

I was tearing apart Pokemon Snap in hope of finding some unused content from the early videos. All I was able to find is this screen, level ID 0x18 and last on the table.


Among other things, I now have useless documentation on music format, level script/polygon data locations in the rom, free movement which works poorly because it stops each section of the level being loaded, and this photo which Professor Oak better give me top marks for.
