It is basically tower defense mode.

We'll find out more tomorrow since it seems you are going to be limited on guns to use and such.

I just figured it was L4Ds Survival game mode in TF2, just with a weapon/ability upgrade system. 'Special' robots and everything.

It is just Orcs Must Die without the structures.

I mean, it isn't really an original concept, but for TF2, it is a breath of fresh air.

Also there will be rewards, either hats or maybe OTHER stuff. I mean, Dota 2 rewards players with accessories and such by completing games. Maybe they are doing that for this mode. Won't find out until tomorrow though.
