Link to the project.

Not only is it written in all caps but... well, lack of information; As seems to be the standard on kickstarter for some reason. :/
I can't help but to feel everyone is just using kickstarter to ride to success by doing a quick money grab. And you're pretty much just donating money at this point, since it's not really an investment unless you can take part in the profits. :/

Further more... this project only makes me think they are also going to nab and rip off this: Link ._.

To be fair, it sounds about as legit as the actual Active Enterprises was.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Basically, kickstarter allows people to make instant cash, then spend it on a project, and make it all back. It's even worse than a usual business, where they actually got a loan or venture capital or investors, and for further projects, they spend what they made on previous projects, or at least that's optimal. Sure that stuff tends to ruin a project, but this just seems wrong. They're basically not liable, and there's nobody to overlook their spending.

It can work in the right circumstances, but I see it better used to donate to people with a proven track record, rather than on weird unknowns who could just run off with the money.

Waitaminute, isn't this the same guy that was selling a Cheetahmen game for like five hundred dollars?

http://www.cheetahmengames.com/Cheetahmen-The-Creation.html

Holy crap it is, he has a link to that at his website!

Kickstarter isn't all bad. There's one on there for Jetpack 2, which is a sequel to an ancient DOS game the guy made (that was apparently quite popular at one time), and a few other real projects that are quite good. (Personally, I'm backing the Valdis Story one, and a few other one-offs.)

Sure, there are terrible people who make terrible Kickstarters, but that's why you have the power to just ignore them and move on. Some projects just aren't something that a VC would touch with a ten foot pole, but if enough real people are interested in the idea, then why not?

As for people running off with the money... Well, anybody can do that. Jul has a donation link. There is nothing stopping me from calling a donation drive to keep the servers going for a year, while just running off with the money.

True, though generally people with real plans for the money have less possibility of running off with it than people with flimsy pretenses...

My opinion is merely caveat emptor, as it is true--there's lots of nice Kickstarters to donate to, and many of them will give you nice stuff in return...

^An example of Kickstarter being good at what it does.

Not that I'm saying people with greedy intentions and shit don't exist on the website, and there are a lot of projects that kind of poot in terms of how well known they are, what their goal is and ultimately how much they get, but projects that make people really want to see happen is basically the spirit of the website.

I was a backer for the first one, but it tanked, he cancelled, and made a new one. I haven't gotten around to rebacking the new one.

He is really close to his goal this time though.

Jetpack was like crack to me. I would play that for hours on end. The demo allowed only one level to be saved but I had a blast with it entirely.

I don't really like Kickstarter since they don't allow donations that don't use Amazon Payments. As Amazon Payments isn't available outside of the States, I can't back anything.

People like this don't increase my potential approval of it. ._.

I think the old goal was $40k or so, and the new one is a lot lower (and has already been reached )

And of course, now it's sitting in the ad spot on Jul, so
