Interesting, I must say.
I wonder if these kind of stuff is still lingering in the .ISO? (the ones we already havent discovered) Now I wonder if the videos in IGN are the same as these ones.

No, I know some are different...

But I must say that AV/Sega did an amazing job at covering their tracks!
There is barely any leftover elements/code for the stages (at least viewable ones...)
This is probably because leaving in old models consumed disc space on those tiny 1.4gb discs...

Thanks to Dickson tip. I went to IGN youtube channel and stumbled upon interesting smb videos. Here they are.
Here it is. Shows the arcade version of expert floor 2.
<object width="420" height="315"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EoobNy4MSRI?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Also, other video of interest is this one. It shows an early bonus stage, and different sound effects.
<object width="420" height="315"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yPRahsybw58?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

This other video shows beginner floor 8 with an underwater BG.
<object width="420" height="315"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RfyAt0RY9p4?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
I came to a conclusion that the sunset BG was swapped for the underwater BG. Here is an image showing AD floor 22(?) in a sunset theme.

Interesting enough, stages 16 to 19 from the expert level of SMB1 appeared in the sunset BG in SMBDX, which appeared originally in an underwater theme.

I assumed this a few months ago - mainly based on the fact this image was the only Master rank in Japanese. Well, now that I have an actual copy of Super Monkey Ball in Japanese, I decided to investigate myself.

I did not expect this - apparently the selector for the Master level wasn't translated to Japanese in the first place - or it wasn't implemented. This confirms that the Japanese Master level selection is indeed unused.

Also, it seems that viewing the Cave background / files doesn't crash the game. Another fact I noticed is that the Japanese version has one less file and folder than the US verision. Will look into this later - though.

One thing I've noticed from hacking the game is that the collision is in a separate file than the main geometry and textures, along with the locations of bananas, goals, bumpers, scenery objects, and even reflection! I wonder why they did that when the collision could be found from analyzing the geometry, saving space.

Wait a minute, there's a cave background? Could it be possible to use in game, through hacking?
