So yeah, laugh at me. But what the hell does any of this mean, and why should I care?

It means nothing, and you should not care in the least.

Registry 'cleaners' are pure bullshit. They cause problems more often than not.

Haha you got scareware'd.

Yeah, pretty much bs.
Though to argue for: CCleaner's at least DEFINES what it THINKS it 'wrong' in the most lamen terms ever.. But in the end it is still pretty useless.

I figured it meant nothing.

I've had it on my laptop forever, and never bothered touching it. It does this every day, and I just x out assuming it was crap.

Nice to know I was seemingly right

In some circles that kind of thing would be considered malware, but since it doesn't do anything to your system other than annoy you, you ought to just ditch it entirely. There are a lot of rogue antivirus things that do similar things and also don't touch the rest of the system as well, so ... classify it however you want, I guess.

e: googling it results in many interesting threads around the world about it being difficult to remove. I wonder if something like Malwarebytes would actually detect it as an infection in this case.

Paulguy's Post configuration
CCleaner isn't too useless, if you want to save some hard drive space. But it usually only amounts to ~100-200MB with a heavily used system.

Also I'd definitely consider that malware. It's intended to nag, inconvenience and scare you in to buying dumb shit. That one looks like it actually does _something_, whether it may be useful or not, so it has that going for it. It wouldn't be so bad if it could easily just be uninstalled, but hardware manufacturers obviously have to go too far with their bullshit to make a few extra bucks.

I tend to lose anywhere from 500MB to over 4GB every time I run CCleaner, which is usually once per week.

Best if you uninstall that garbage right away and get CCLeaner if you want to clean that sort of stuff. But if you don't care, then just uninstall that, as it's a waste of space.

Echoing the CCleaner... well, maybe not "love", but at least it's a decently useful program to have installed on your PC. It won't hurt, put it that way.

The thing you have is NOT malware (i.e. if you chose to register the program you wouldn't be dealing with a fake payment page that ends up sending your credit card details to some scammer) but it's not really all that useful. Uninstall it.

And I got rid of it several months ago.

Could you close it for me please? It might even be a pretty one :3

There is a conspiracy of members who are intentionally dragging this thread out for the sole purpose of pissing off the original poster.

They're JPEG artifacts, and that's because he saved the image as a JPEG.

Good grief, you guys.
