So a Taiwanese gamer went to an internet cafe, booked a private room and practically played himself to death. I think Diablo is awesome, but the most time I've ever put into gaming in a day was somewhere around 12 hours, with bathroom, food and miscellaneous breaks. Other deaths are mentioned in the article as well. One guy pulled off over 80 hours straight. Insane. What's everyone's thoughts on this?

This is strangely reminiscent of the Korean (or was it Taiwanese as well?) gamer who overplayed starcraft and died from that as well, a couple years ago.

Blizzard is making a new MMO. Projected Asian death toll is in the millions.

| I hear these stories and can't wrap my head around the concept there is absolutely NOTHING you'd rather do at least once in those hours. |

Think of how much you enjoy or picture enjoying the greatest thing you'll ever experience in your life. Multiply that by over 9000. You have your result, sir. |

Most people die from heart attacks well before that time period. |

How the hell does a person go 40 hours without eating? I've gone through some insanely busy work/school periods where I literally don't have even 5 minutes to grab a bite. After only 12 hours I start getting very conscious that I've not eaten anything and get very irritable. And this is with a ton of important shit going on around me.
The 4-5 times I've gone 24 hours without sustenance, I basically become a complete madman that will refuse to do anything that does not involve driving to a fast food place and stuffing my face. I surprise myself at how insanely single minded I get. 40 hours? forget it..
I don't care if I just started playing the new Mario/Metroid/WoW/Minecraft/Pokemon mega mash-up game that just released and is the greatest game ever made ever in the history of the world of all time, I ain't going fucking 40 hours without food. Seriously, wtf is up with people who forget to eat. ____________________ Visit Digital Space for my game news.

The lifestyle over in Asia is very different from any western society, in that video gaming is not only a way of life but also a way of death. There's a reason why there are laws in China that limit the time you spend on games and internet.

I see this claimed a lot, but do you have any evidence that this is a lifestyle-situation related to Asia specifically? It could just as easily be happening everywhere, but simply under-reported in other locations. |

Well, in the US for example, our news flips out if a Caucasian spills their sundae, so I'm pretty sure this would be big news. Not to mention that the conservative moms who are against video games would use such an event to condemn gaming even further, which I have yet to hear about.
