I'm enjoying the game for the most part, but Inferno is poorly designed. Maybe by the time I get there co-op it'll actually be fun or something, but I'm not holding my breath. The devs basically admitted as such in one of their latest blog updates: link

No ifs, buts or whatever.

Also: Link

Also also: Link

And the only unbeatable packs in Diablo II were generally Multiple-Shot Lightning Enchanted where if you hit them it would either crash the game from the number of charged bolts or instagib you. This was removed in a later patch. Jay Wilson explicitly referenced those as Bad game design. And then did stuff like Jailer/Mortar and the like. Most of the Monster affixes are cool in concept, but they have no legitimate tells and are designed entirely to test whether you can take a couple of hits or not, rather than if you can deal with the baddies intelligently. Don't forget that many monsters have their own unique abilities on top of that, so it is entirely possible to have a Jailer/Fire Chains/Arcane Enchanted/Invulnerable minions or something that can also teleport. I'm playing co-op with my partner and she got instagibbed by a mere molten/arcane enchanted baddie without any chance to respond. And that was only on Nightmare.

They've also realised that their artisans are mostly useless - The blacksmith doesn't make anything worthwhile that you can't get for a fifteeth of the price on the AH with better stats.

The fact that their uptime has been awful (It was so bad that the Korean Government raided the Blizzard offices for refusing refunds to people who wanted it based solely on the server uptime). On my end, those giant maintenance windows that have been every week since launch occurred during local prime-time on one of my only genuinely free evenings of the week, coupled with the effect of generally increasing my latency by 100 ms each patch until the latest one where the game no longer rubberbands constantly.

All in all - the launch of this game was a horrible screwing of the pooch. They unfortunately didn't learn from a large number of lessons through D2's development. It's a fun game at where I am, but there's a lot of boneheaded decisions that really should have been self evident before launch. That's why people of cranky.

And yes, the story does suck. The story is AWFUL. (D1/D2 is also not amazing but at least it didn't regularly appear to make you facepalm)

Anyway, now that I'm no longer cranky I will have to say that the changes for incoming future patch 1.03 look good!

Link

I'm particularly keen for the combining cost of gems to come down, as they're pretty overpriced at the moment.

Also: Blood Star is a curse from half-naked demon ladies? Sure, we can go with that

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. The gem thing definitely is indeed a bit costly. Bloodstar might also be a half naked demon lady.

Blizzard Blog: Cheating in Diablo III

Turns out Blizzard will start the ban wave against cheaters soon, and it will definitely be permanent.

If you cheat in an online PC game using altered software, then you're a straight-up ginnygoat.

Yay, I can't wait for all single player games to tell me how I should play them! DDDD

In seriousness, it does make sense in the multiplayer aspect, Diablo 3 is not a single player game, it's an MMO market place with tag team play in which by choice you can solo. This have been obvious for a while now I suppose. :I

TBH, while I understand that it is technically a multiplayer game, I don't think that it should be called an MMO. I thought massively multiplayer online games meant that there were a large number of players playing in the same world at once, ala WoW or something. Not 1-4 together.

Ah, pardon if it was not very clear. I said MMO market place, in which is a reference to the auction house where all players can interact, not the bread and butter of the gameplay. Sorry if I came off as unclear.

I'm definitely looking forward to the changes, especially the gem/blacksmith costs. I'm sorry, but in normal difficulty, 500 gold per flawed gem upgrade is pretty steep. I'm glad that I won't have to use as many gems as well.

I mean, I've been buying gems off the auction house anyways and saving the ones I find, but still.

I've bought gems multiple tiers higher than what I can make for chump change.

Oh I see what you're getting at. Hopefully I didn't come across as too over-correcting or anything like that. It wasn't really even you directly that I was addressing. Your post just reminded me of all the people in places like GameFAQs who are calling it an MMO which irks me a bit. Hopefully I'm correct in my irkfulness.

Oh. Before I begin, hi forums. Nice to meet you. I'm just a guy who got interested after noticing a loser I knew drifted on here and got booted out. I'd figure it'd be rude to not sit there and have a chat, so let's go.

My general disinterest in this game after giving it a shot mostly stems from the fact that gear is hardly special and the game's ridiculous concept of difficulty.

I hate having to look at gear and scan for practically two things: my primary stat, and a couple of the many enchantments that are actually useful. It feels like harder modes compels you to only seek the worthwhile enchantments and it kills a lot of item variety that could be had.

The later difficulties instill difficulty in the worst ways possible for an action RPG. When everything one-shots you regardless of how beefy you are, crap like teleport attacks or invincible minions or every single monster in a mob get the unique's full modifiers and the mods are ridiculous, (Mortar Molten Extra-fast Waller, on everyone) it stops looking like fun and starts looking more like mindless drivel. It's hardly creative when your game on the 3rd and 4th playthrough becomes a SHMUP, and the "customization" you have gets thrown out the window because you have to do whatever it takes to not get ransacked immediately.

That said, this game did some things right. I would've enjoyed building characters with a 6 skills at once limitation, (if 80% of all skills in this game wasn't GARBAGE.) I find the auction house to be worthwhile, (Not sure about real money auction house though.) and I can enjoy the monsters' base variety. I just wish the game would stop feeling like an MMO I have to gear up for after going through half of it. This still feels like WoW, only with the heart and soul of Diablo put into its dying shell.

If anything, I'd blame the glaring numerous flaws on the fact that it's been 12 years. Anyone from Diablo II that made the game good has been replaced by either new "talent" that doesn't have a good grasp on what made D2 awesome, or losers from WoW.

Alright I'm done ranting. Sorry if any of this has already been said.

Yeah, the itemisation is actually fairly boring. There's pages upon pages on the D3 Blizzard forums with constructive and well thought out approaches to how it could be significantly improved and made a lot more enticing.

The biggest problem is that the only affixes you want are powerstats (+killpower or +survivability) and any of the interesting affixes (stuff like stun, freeze, spells on critical) are of such a low percentage you'll practically never see them. There's no interesting items compared to D2 like say, the Buriza-Do-Kyanon (a mid-power crossbow that has shots that pierce 100% of the time and was viable), Mask of Horror (Hits cause monsters to flee 50% of the time), or even the magical or rare items that had fun stuff like spell charges (Eg, Ring of Amplify Damage: 30 charges, Spirit of the Barbs: 8 Charges), chances to cast spells that were non-trivial and whatnot.

I do like the rune system a lot, but unfortunately as noted above most of the ability runes are indeed crap. The class that seems to suffer the most from 'crap rune syndrome' is the Witch Doctor, although that's mainly because his summons are so weaksauce.

The only other issue that really bothers me is the hitboxes - you'll always be hit if the enemy 'hits' you at the start of the animation even if you've moved out the way before the attack finishes. Apparently it is intended behaviour too. Oh well, inferno can go die in a fire

I hate that so much. I swear I remember being able to avoid most attacks like that in the old games, to the point where "rolls to-hit on animation start" was an extraordinary circumstance.

The main issue I have with the runes is that you can't get things like rings with +1 charged bolt or whatever. It feels less unique to me.

I don't know about melee attacks, but for ranged attacks, you can certainly dodge them.

Guess what? I've made $5.25!! I know I'm freaking rolling in the dough like a boss. 25 cents at a time baby. I'll have this game paid for in no time..or in 4 years..whatever.

Gratz on making money in the RMAH! I made somewhere between $2.25 & $2.55. Can't remember which. That was a couple of weeks ago. Haven't made any since then. I am just starting Hell with Bloodstar, after all.

I don't mean the auto-evade abilities (The one you get by boosting dex or using some abilities like that), but the actual ability to move out of the way before a melee attack is finished and not get hit.
