Downtown has been more or less deserted sans protesters and world leaders right now. Protesters from Occupy Chicago as well as anti-NATO protestors are going to be around all weekend protesting, and it should be an exciting weekend. In Bridgeport, eight protestors were arrested supposedly without cause, leading to a lot of anger with protesters and their lawyers. In recent history Chicago has not been a particularly good place to protest due to police brutality is involved, markedly the 1968 Democratic National Convention, which was one of the driving forces that ultimately ended up with the election of Nixon as president.

Thousands are already protesting a few days before the summit.

I live near Chicago, and I cheered for the cops. These protestors think it's okay to devalue Anonymous, put on (shoddy) fake blood, hit police with barricades, and so much more.

Also, the guy getting chased by the SWAT van was hilarious.

Just so you know, Chicago fubar'd US politics for a while back in the day while using similar tactics. Granted, 44 years later, there was some fucking self-control, but the ghost of the DNC was lingering that weekend with some of the unnecessary police brutality.
