Except in this game only your equipment can really change things since you can't add points to stats when you level up.

Well, whatever passives/skills loadout you use helps a lot too.

Someone using Blur/Evocation with defensive skills is going to die a lot, lot less than someone using Glass Cannon and the other damage boost passives.

Diablo III accounts hacked, gold and items stolen

What's worse? This affects single player games as well.

Another reason why I have no desire to buy this game period.

I'm through with Activision/Blizzard for good now.

Identity thieves steal bank account information, so I'm never going to have a bank account again. Car thieves steal cars, so I'm never going to own a car again.

I mean really? Bad people do bad things. You can't fault a company for the malicious intent of others. Obviously they didn't prepare well enough for this situation, but Blizzard will rectify it. They produce and release some of the most popular games in their respective genres. Obviously they're going to be prime targets for hacking and trolling.

Diablo 3 isn't a single player game anymore. It's an online game. Whether you play with others or not is up to you. Even if you are playing alone, later on in the game you need to have a hired companion to survive.

Anyway, we're through Act 1 of hell mode and it sure is hell. Took us all night to get to act 2 where as we were in the middle of act 3 after the same amount of time going through normal mode. But we're learning our classes and abilities to better improve our play styles. Hell and beyond becomes a completely different game. And the auction house is great for finding the right gear instead of farming for hours on end, hoping you get an item with stats for your class. Currently at 5700 damage, 24k life on my witch doctor. I learned that 2 handers with high damage are better than a 1hander and mojo off hand.

I should note that I have a pure hatred of Activision since Robert Trowling's departure from the company (not going to go there in depth since that's off the subject, but all I know is that Blizzard is Activision). I may give this game a shot then later when the game goes on sale, but I'm more excited for Torchlight II over this.

No fucking shit.

It's not like they haven't had enough chances to practice - as always with their online issues I point to World of Warcraft.

You can't just sweep this under the rug with a "oh well bad people are everywhere, deal with it." Banks prepare extensively for dealing with these problems (in theory), and most new cars have several anti-theft measures last I checked. Blizzard had a chance to prepare, and considering how fast this happened, it's clear that they wasted it.

Incidentally, it's really not even the same Blizzard responsible for the first two Diablo games, so all this shouldn't have come as a surprise.

Which is why some of the original creators of Diablo went on to do Torchlight.

Also how about them nerfs?

Come on Blizzard.

Actually, it is rumoured to be a public session ID exploit which bypasses both logins and authenticators entirely.

Also - discovered that passwords are case insensitive. Reading the forum from Bliz, that is apparently intended behaviour.

This should be all you need to see on this topic.

Also how it was closed later on since it was "a huge discussion about something that isn't a bug."

Supposedly intended ever since WoW.

That rumor has been put to rest. Blizzard has stated all hacks investigated thus far were through normal means (keyloggers, etc) using the password to the account and none of them had authenticators attached before they were hacked.

We've been taking the situation extremely seriously from the start, and have done everything possible to verify how and in what circumstances these compromises are occurring. Despite the claims and theories being made, we have yet to find any situations in which a person's account was not compromised through traditional means of someone else logging into their account through the use of their password. While the authenticator isn't a 100% guarantee of account security, we have yet to investigate a compromise report in which an authenticator was attached beforehand.

As far as the nerfs go, it was definitely necessary for Monks and Wizards. Both were extremely overpowered in certain situations.

As in "Everything before Inferno," in the case of Monks? Because now, instead of being useless in Inferno, we're useless from the middle of Act 2 Hell onwards.

The fact is that not every skill is viable for Act II Hell and onwards. In the current state of the game, there are a few cookie cutter builds that are necessary to progress. People were used to playing a certain way and relied heavily on broken mechanics.

I had to drastically change my play style on my witch doctor but we just killed Diablo on Hell and started Inferno last night. Now I have 17k damage and 31k health and working through Act 1 fairly quickly. I know Act 2 is where Inferno really starts to get difficult, though. I'm working out balancing secondary stats next since I have a lot of high intelligence only items.

For witch doctors, you either have to go splinter darts or use vision quest with dire bats/zombie bears. I find that splinter darts allow for more secondary skill options and cooldowns, but dire bats/zombie bears can put out some impressive dps if played right. But it requires you to keep 4 abilities on cooldown at all times, which makes it less versatile for situations where CC and kiting are necessary.

And those cookie cutter builds are almost universally "Don't play melee." I know being melee in a Diablo game is almost always a bad idea, but I had a shimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, I would be able to actually play a bruiser and be useful. With the way it stands now, I'd probably be best off just dropping my monk where he is until they actually figure out where the fuck they're going with the design and pick up a different, non-melee class, because Inferno sure as hell isn't tuned for anything but kite-and-run ranged strategies.

Meanwhile, the justification of "Well, you can use another ability!" falls apart when you realize that a lot of the runes a monk picks up towards the end... blow. I can generate more spirit when I punch you! Too bad I don't really run low on spirit with my build. Oh! I can set all my hotkeys to be different spirit-generating moves and get 8% damage each one I use in succession for three whole seconds! Except now I've removed every single healing move to make room for that, and I get locked down and blown up with any engagement that's blue or better. There's a lot of confusing design issues, with both the passives and the runes, that need to get a good hard look-at.

I think it's more a case of Inferno being hard by virtue of stats rather than gameplay. I know I'm certainly not going to bother with it.

I'm almost annoyed on the fact that dying in one fucking hit in hell mode kinda makes me think "Oh hey, maybe I'm not geared enough for Hell mode"!

Then farming act 4 Nightmare mode comes to mind that all that drops for me is absolute SHIT

Don't farm gear, just farm gold. You'll get enough gold for a specific item with stats you need faster than farming for gear that's itemized for you. And crafting is a waste of time right now. Don't even bother with either of them. You can buy perfect square gems for less than 10k.
