Uh. Wow.

No really. Wow.

My college didn't even give me a half ride.

But that's because I didn't give a damn about school at all.

If I didn't know better, I'd say they gave me money simply because I was good at running and my SAT scores showed I had aptitude, but not application.

Welcome to America. :J

I know tuition for top universities isn't cheap at all, but $50k must be on the high end. I mean, I'm sure the average is FAR less than that...

This could answer some questions you may be having but not articulating directly in your post. :J

I'm pretty sure that the total cost of attendance for most of the top 50 universities is in the $50k+ range. Except for the top public schools (but most of the top universities are private anyway)

The top undergraduate public school according to US News is UC Berkeley and they charge $31k. While Harvard is $57k-$62k according to the website... But then again, most of the top 50 universities give a ton of financial aid (the most blatant and infamous exception being NYU), as is evident from my $50k/year scholarship.

A full scholarship to Georgetown is really, really impressive... Congratulations!

Also, this is my 6000th post. (Seems like it took a lot longer than prior milestones, excluding 2000)

Here are some photos of the Symphony and Back Bay area of Boston. If everything goes as plan, this could be my new home in a few months.

That's still WAAAAAAY too much money, Sofi. Tuition is dirt-cheap here compared to America... and that's even with the proposed tuition hikes! And the ongoing student protests/strikes/bickering with the government over said hikes!

That's why college tuition is such a big deal here. We have a ton of private colleges and we have that whole obsession with capitalism. It's pretty crazy.

I should try to find a list of tuition per school. I mean, I know that the Ivy League and all that would be right up there in terms of costs, but I'm sure there's more than a few schools that are overcharging like nobody's business.

There you go ... seems pretty accurate.

Note how the difference between #5 and #50 is about $2k...

It should be mentioned that a lot of the expensive schools tend to give very generous financial aid packages. In fact if I remember correctly, Georgetown has one of the most generous financial aid packages in the country. Even if you weren't getting a full ride, Fieryice, it'd DEFINITELY still be a very generous offer. You managed to get a full ride, though, and that's something millions of students can only dream of.

Cherish the package. Hold it tenderly. Take it out for dinner and dancing.

Yes, that is true. A certain number of these schools are known as "need-blind, full-need" schools, which will accept students regardless of their ability to pay, and give them financial aid that meets their entire demonstrated financial need.

I think there are 55 such colleges in the US according to those lists.

Twenty grand will get you four years of some of Western Canada's finest technology education at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Another twenty will get you two to four years at the Vancouver Art Institute.

I can see absolutely no reason why one would want to pay up to ten times that much for school.

The better schools charge more here, because the government doesn't believe in subsidizing education anywhere near as much as is really needed.

Phew! I'm glad to see UCF isn't in the top 500, even with the recent tuition increase.
