Death Trap v2

Longer blades that never extinguish plus three times the gravity strength of the original make this thing one tough cookie.


Assassin

Armed with six guns, this thing will try to blast you from afar. However, it has a trick up its sleeve...


Doom Mini

This thing will chase you to the ends of the earth with its seemingly mile-long blade wings. Don't kill it fast enough and you're up for a surprise.

This artificial black hole pulls you in with it's extreme gravitational field. It does give brief cool-off periods, however. That design flaw will be fixed in the next version...

More ships!



Andus IV's Wasp
A light cruiser that has five unmanned drones (not visible in that shot.) Unlike many such drones, however, these do not need to be controlled or observed as their own systems can handle that. Additionally, they can be and have been used as escape pods, and can be manually controlled from within should the need arise.

Escape pods not pictured. You'll see 'em after a while... you'll likely destroy the main ship before then and you'll see what I meant about escape pods.


The Theralian Empire's Wraith
A precision laser bombardment ship, the Wraith is slow, but can maintain steady laser bombardment while its main guns recharge and reload.

I was recently playing Battleships Forever. You may have seen some similarities between the Wraith and the Hestia... I also took some inspiration, believe it or not, from Columns - the ship was originally going to be named Clotho, and was designed as a slow, predictable ship, like the BGM of the same name.

Scatter Missile

Fun Fact: It was originally going to be called "AIDS Missile".


Scatter Missile Carrier

This ship is designed to do nothing more than spread Scatter Missiles, which the designers did very well. The ship is shaped like a giant Fly that shoots dinky lasers from its antennae and poops energy rings. If it weren't for the vaccuum of space, you could hear it's annoying buzzing.


Warning: All three of the above ships might will cause lag.

R-9A Arrowhead
While not a perfect reproduction by any stretch of the imagination, I kinda like this. It's intended to be an overhead view of the R-9A, using R-Type Final's R Museum as my reference. It is exceptionally fragile if you hit it directly, just trying to stay true to the game. The Force pod is, as always, indestructible.

Weapons:
Couldn't do good missiles.
Wave Cannon replaced by generic Laser L. Another of those "couldn't do it" cases, but the Wave Cannon is important enough I had to replace it with something...
Anti-Air Laser uses a well-timed and carefully-placed string of four Plasma Rings. Not perfect, but as good as I could do. Unfortunately, it makes the ship's design a little less clear since I placed it partially behind the Force instead of in front of it, to try and minimize how much it sticks out.

Now I know why the Vic Viper was included in pre-made ships and not the R-9... it had simple weapons. I'm gonna have to try to refine this one more...

Has anyone tried making their own TRY yet? I'm deciding to do one, putting in all the things that it seems I've done so far, with edits based on how they work and how skill fills the gaps of existance. Nothing spectacular, though, besides fightng them all in a row with their own color.

As for the ships, they have a range of sppearance. I even gone nuts for one of the things, stacking 90 of those rotaters (whatever I used for my Spin+++) all on top of each other. It's so fast, you can stay in its path and sometimes (more like most of the time) not get hit. (If nobody else has tried this, then I guess my name is correct. Maybe.)
There's also a very, VERY useless trap ship; ghost gravity generators, ghost blocks connecting, and inactive ghost bullet tips poking at you whenever you're on the gravity generators. It doesn't move, either, only rotates. Very useless.

Anyone else have stuff to speak of that thry haven't released yet?

I made a test one involving three "flame ring" models (ripoff of the starfish, the third model is my own creation) and am working on a "boss-like" test involving my Starfish Rev.Z (now called ultimate star or something as silly)


Also I made a few more ships that need some tweaking before being posted.

The problem I have with making a try, is that it just seems so unfinished, and limited. You only have one life with which to complete each one, and you can't really make 'levels' very effectively without the ability to control the scrolling of the screen.

Take a look at Fraxius, maybe that'll give you some ideas for the scrolling issue.

Edit:

Kelos' Shuriken Defense Network was pretty effective at keeping their enemies out. However, it wasn't very durable, and cost too much. So, they went to Orine Labs, who designed the OI-1 Estrela Prata.

Sporting more firepower and better support systems than the Shuriken Defense Network, it also uses fewer materials, is fully automated, and is easier to deploy. It also has maintenance units on board. However, with all the automated systems, electrical overload is a major concern, and guarding against that proved far too expensive for what Kelos Prime wanted. The support systems are mounted on four highly mobile satellites that are very hard to target effectively.

So much for THIS then...


As far as I got with the Halberd. No weapons, so no point in even hosting it.

Looks Like I'll just have to settle with these two prototypes.

Maybe uhh... you could make it in different pieces, and align them in a TRY... Which would make sense as you nuke each part of it individually...
But then you have the problem of having to set them up in a way that they move coordinatedly or something... not to mention the computer simply exploding trying to render that monster... (if 200 pieces barely moving cause slowdown... imagine like 6 of those.)

Maybe you could try to make a sightly less massive version though... The whole thing being a bit larger than the part you have there should work.

Eh, it's not really worth it. As it is, the game couldn't even handle the explosion. Kill the core, and pieces just started disappearing with no flashing or anything. Too bad, though.


Anyway, considering the Halberd project fell through, I decided to not even attempt my second grand project and just made this in its stead.

Interesting, a Christmas Day update to Fraxy. Haven't looked at it yet.

I noticed the OI-1 (my previous post) was a little too hard to take out. A quick fix would be removing the repair units from the flamethrower satellites. There'll still be two satellites with repair units, but they're slower and easier to target. The HP isn't very high, 6500 tops (on the central core itself).

Peardian, the issues you ran into with the Halberd are why I stopped with my battleship project; of the eight planned (Kelos Prime's Excalibur and Masamune, the Theralian Empire's Saigyouji and Poltergeist, Zephis' Jophiel and Raziel, and Andus' Mantis and Bumblebee) only the Excalibur was ever done. On rank 100, Excalibur slowed the game to around 10 FPS at best on my computer, and its massive size made it very hard to maneuver around on Fraxy's limited resolution. The largest ships I've made that seem reasonable in Fraxy are the Seraphim Battlecruiser and Gungnir Assault Cruiser... even they have some slowdown for me, though.

I never hit the part limit, though. Even I know when I'm going overboard on a design.

As for the update, it's just a small update to Try mode, as apparently requested on a message board. Can't see anything major, though.
