This is essentially Hollywood getting bitchslapped in Australia. They have a high court ruling that basically says that they can't attack the ISPs for their users, unlike in other countries where they try that.

Which is cool.

A lot of ISPs are also content providers in the US, or even have association with studios or the media industry, so they'd still have incentive to be dicks.

In Australia, not so much.

Telstra is the only one which has both a large market saturation and any big association with US content providers - but they're not that competitive simply because they have a poor service for internet compared to the other ISPs.
