Yes.
I realized as I started this post instead of explaining why I'm not doing work on tcrf, I instead went off on a rant. The reason I'm not working is confusion over how to continue working on the Pokemon Red/Blue articles, but the rant is about the confusion. So read at your own risk.
<rant>I've tried my best to get every new discovery about Pokemon Red/Blue in the articles as soon as it's discovered, but honestly, the article is a mess. I'd like to hope someday it can be Featured Article material like Gold/Silver are, but with so many different versions of Generation I games, it's hard to determine what regional differences belong, what don't, how to split differences among subpages, etc. Additionally, unlike other games where things can easily be broken into "unused music, unused dialog, unused maps, unused items, etc", Pokemon has a lot of misc. things which look cluttery to the article ("default total pp of struggle, unused battling aim, butterfree for beedrill trade, north/west/south/east options, etc").
But a big problem is literally how different all the versions truly are. The game has been reprogrammed, as well as purposefully reworked for different versions. There are two versions of Japanese Pokemon Red/Green, the second including some bugfixes. Japanese Blue was mostly reprogrammed. English Red/Blue also seem fairly different from the Japanese Red/Green (but similar to Japanese Blue). Then you have German, French, Spanish, Italian Red/Blue versions, which seem split up into two groups (German/French and Italian/Spanish). Each group shares a character set, as well as one group still has the Cinnabar Island surfing glitch (German/French), the other doesn't (Italian/Spanish).
So yes, a big mess. And what differences belong in the article, and what don't? In my opinion, things like "In-game trades", "Japanese Blue Game Corner prizes", and Unknown Dungeon's Yellow version don't belong, but my opinion isn't the only valid opinion. Glitches don't specify which versions of the Japanese games they belong to, and are just sort of haphazardly added to the article with no clear sense of order. Actually, that problem seems to plague most of the article.</rant> |
