Ha.

I have several other companies in mind that really deserve this dubious honor, which in my opinion have done more actual damage to the country at large. But EA is still a pretty crappy company, and it's fun to say so to its face.

EDIT: Oddly, Activision never had online passes, or the fact they force you to have their account to play online, or day one DLC. They're close to my perception, because I developed a pure hatred of them recently for a few good reasons.

But EA; Online passes in every AAA title, and even lesser titles like NFL Blitz, force you to have an Origin account to play online, which was BS. Combined with one game having the shittiest endings I've ever seen this generation, and day one DLC that was rushed, and you've got one big hunk of turd for EA.

I'm a little bit pissed at EA for SimCity 5 being primarily through Origin, SC5 having a barely-useful limited edition that's like an extra thirty bucks, and Origin not letting me buy Back to Karkand because I'm under 17.

Seriously I want Strike at Karkand in glorious computer-crushing HD.

I still maintain that EA had perhaps the single-greatest response to such a silly "award".

We're sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren't nominated this year.

Because, as we all know, publishing shitty games with day one DLC is a hell of a lot worse than a fucking gigantic oil spill caused by BP USA.

Blame the developer, not the publisher. That one's all on Bioware.

Yet, even with that in mind it really does show you the horrendous reputation EA has with its customer base.

Possibility doesn't dictate what you can do.
Well, to be fair, BP isn't so much "worst" as "why does it still fucking exist?!". It should be banned from voting. Specially with the reason of the company not existing anymore, but still.

Though I would label private entertaiment companies as a worse than just "harmless": They pull the strings of copyrights, which right now are contributing to the mess of the economy and are the bane of technological progress. Which does have a real impact in people's lives. (And some of these companies have indeed screwed up individual lives, and I'd figure were nominated too)

Not something like EA though. That shits in the gaming industry, but doesn't really affect much out of it.

I hate EA, but I definitely hate Activision slightly more because of Bobby Kotick. Can't stand the guy.

Activision have cleaned up their act a little bit though, while EA continues to pursue super-dickery. Capcom is hot on their heels, too.

But to be worst company in America? Hardly. Worst companies in electronics-related fields? Yep.

Didn't the BP oil leak happen a few years ago, and this "award" is a yearly thing? Considering I haven't heard a peep out of BP since their terribly-received ad campaign, I assume they haven't been mini Hitlers.

As I recall BP won the award last year for the oil spill.

I do think Bank of America is a worse company than EA... (but then I do more business with BoA than EA, for that matter...)

Pretty sure EA ranks up there in most profitable companies in America, at least profitable for the higher-ups in the company. And that's all I would care about if I were EA. The fact is they sell a lot of games and make a lot of money and there's absolutely nothing anyone can do about it...

*Hint* If you truly don't enjoy how EA conducts business, stop buying their products and stop giving them free publicity by calling it names and giving it poo shaped awards.

Um, I don't understand this point, to be honest. I doubt anyone who hears about this is going to say "Hey, EA, I've never heard of them! I should check out what games they make!"... I mean, if we were talking a more obscure company I would agree, but...

Well, the consumerist.com (where this poll/article originated from) does hit a demographic wider than just the gaming community. After reading this article, non gamers who really don't know what the hub-bub is about will click a couple links, visit certain game related sites, see some newly released game ads and download a demo or two. Boom! New people buying Mass Effect.

That's just how it works. We tend to forget (at least I do ) that not everyone knows what I know about the gaming world.

Of course what many of the people replying here don't get is the whole "Worst Company in America" thing is based on popular opinion, not objective standards. Thus while sometimes the choice is logical, sometimes it is not.

Furthermore, while there is no such thing as bad publicity, there is a such thing as damaging a brand's reputation. Generally the winners of these awards are very unhappy to get them and the award itself focuses a particularly negative light on them and their company as far as consumer relations go.

Long story short, this isn't meant to "destroy" the company so much as brand them as "bad."

in the end, ea still wins: they still know their market, they still know how to sell what they want and get

dat

CA$H

so i think they're not really deserving to be lampooned because of their... not really harmful marketing tactics

only hurts our butts, really. but that's it--just butthurt

but whatever! it's just the result of a poll with an obvious slant because of how and where it took place

They got voted that way because the consumers are pissed with them. I don't see how anyone can see that as a good thing.

Not only that, but they blew it off like it was nothing. It's a big warning "Hey your market is pissed with you. They might not keep up this shit where they say they'll boycott then won't, and might actually boycott you for once if you keep screwing them over."

Their response? "Y-yeah, well, BP!"

BP wasn't this year EA.

It's coming up on two years ago. And we still get ads for "HAVE YOU BEEN HURT BY THE BP OIL SPILL???!" shit.
