So myself, two translators, and the dude behind Zelda 3 editor "Black Magic" are doing an Event (not a panel, mind) at the Penny Arcade Expo next week. It'll be on Saturday at 11AM in Classic Console Freeplay, and we're going to be having real-hardware demos of hacked and translated games, taking questions, tossing out trivia, announcing projects, general meet-and-greet sort of stuff. It ought to be a pretty fun time, so if you're going to the con, stop by if you want to schmooze!

The four of us are currently planning on showing off:
-Suikogaiden translation (PS1)
-SRW Alpha Gaiden gag reel and SRW Alpha WIP translation demo (PS1)
-Unannounced AGTP RPG translation and unannouned AGTP puzzle game translation (both SNES)
-Long-dormant AGTP cinematic fighting game (SNES)
-JESUS: Tale of the Dreadful Biomonster (NES)

Since the NES and SNES stuff will be on powerpaks, we'll have lots more currently-available stuff to try too!

That sounds like a lot of fun, I always had an idea to do something like this and was considering trying to do something like this for GDC next year (which is probably more difficult). Wish I could be there, I never met another ROM hacker in "real life". Have fun.
