Once I had a friend over and I was cooking a homestyle Chinese dish except I forgot to make rice so I just chopped up some leftover French fries and fried it and served it as a potato hash side dish and it fit really well even though it wasn't what I was used to.

The rice I use is basamati rice, so it's not like I'm very traditional to begin with.

One time I had no idea what I was doing and I coated the crap out of some chicken with frank's red hot wing sauce and rolled it in flour with more sauce on top. Then I baked it and it turned out awesome. Usually though, I just end up royally messing up. For instance, I've had really good peanut butter noodles before, but had no idea how to make the sauce so I just tried adding melted peanut butter... Only I didn't have any noodles, so I used rice... Don't try that at home. It's terrible.
