This is an odd question, but I need to ask it. I've been tearing apart Splatterhouse 2010 at the seams, since I plan to modify the hell out of it to restore cut content and material. And trust me, there's a lot of material, and I'd like to post this on TCRF.

Now here's where the topic title fits in. The game features several pics of the female character Jennifer nude that you can unlock. A good chunk were cut from the game. There's nothing overtly sexual about the images, other than bare breasts in some. It seems odd however to say "these are here" and then go "but you can't see them".

So what's the policy/handling on this sort of thing?

I think we need some sort of "NSFW" template indicating that some of the content on the page is not safe for work. That seems like it would work.

A couple pages already contain some minor nudity, like the TES2: Daggerfall prototype page.

A template is just kind of an invitation for the desperate to hunt for nudity wherever they can; let's make it difficult for them by just treating nudity like business as usual.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Probably should keep it in a "spoiler" type tag, or just link to the images with a note. I imagine there are a lot of young children who browse and if you want any legitimacy, you should probably be fairly accepting of squeamish parents.

I think given how much I'm wading through here, I'm going to go ahead and make a sub-page in the article with a big "Warning: Nudity" disclaimer. There's so much to wade through so this'll end up being a slow and steady production either way.

Here's the article for anyone who wants to see how things are progressing: http://tcrf.net/Splatterhouse_(2010)

A subpage thing is pretty much easily bypassed if you, say, link to the page directly.

Also I really don't think a 'desperate hunt for nudity' is a big deal.

I actually agree with you on that last line, given that really these pages are far from kid friendly anyway (those developer rants, anyone).

Still, the sub-page does at least quell issues with folks showing an effort was made, and I do have enough material to flesh it out.

Well, here's the question I asked about it in 2010. Xkeeper's reply at the time was about the same as the general opinion in this thread - we probably shouldn't be worried about it. I was just semi-concerned someone out there might make a big gripe about it to someone, like the webhosts. Then again, I am paranoid. ;

Kung Fu Man: you might want to avoid making a lot of "small" edits, though. Some don't like it when the Recent Changes log fills up with several edits to one page. You can use the Preview button or the Sandbox to check your page, if you want.

I think the big difference between pages that have NSFW content (Atomic F-Bomberman, anyone?) and this particular brand of it is that the text isn't as obvious from far away that it's NSFW and the audio doesn't make itself known until you hit play; images are just right there.

That's why I think a little notice at the top of the page would work well, just as an alert that content below might not be suitable for work. (Though the skip-through-the-page link would still cause issues, but at least it'd be on the same page.)

I can't tell if that's a "no" to the lack of humour in the disclaimer, a "no" to the partial nudity, or a "no" to the image of what appears to be spiky melons in a bra.

Tina pretty much nailed it: NSFW text isn't a big deal because unless you're right up close, it just looks like text, and audio isn't a big deal because you have to manually activate it, but images are right there for everyone to see. (Even if you just scroll past them or hit back right away, a particularly zealous corporate filter might go just over them being in your cache and/or passing through the firewall... but then why are you looking at vidjagames in the first place? )

[edit] I also like Bagel's idea.

Possibility doesn't dictate what you can do.
I'd think a better idea would be making an image template, in where the thumbnail was replaced by a "hey this is NSFW click me to see" image, and it took you to the actual file.

But I don't know if that's even possible.

Alternatively, couldn't you just make it a gif? The screen would show text where the image should be, saying that the following image is NSFW. After a significant amount of time passes, the image shows, and it stays like that (non looping.)

It's far from perfect, but if you can't do what you listed, sometimes improvising can work wonders.

That's a pretty lame solution, considering GIFs can only have 256 colors, and most NSFW stuff tends to exceed that. And what about grownups who want to view the content immediately?

Alternately, a bit of JavaScript could allow a hover-over reveal of the image in question.
