Well, you could work bus stations in that. AFAIK all they did in 2k was reduce local traffic density anyway.

And yeah. Railroads. Expensive as hell but always a superior option to roads

The CSS for that site didn't even fucking load on my (relatively) brand new laptop.

I may end up preordering this. Like, right now.

Honestly, now that I think about it, isn't it a better idea to modify the source code to Windows SimCity (aka Micropolis) instead of SCSNES because it'd be more functionable than modding SCSNES? That, and it'd be awesome to have the first SimCity with monuments, bigger map sizes and some subways for that inner city feel.

There goes my complete interest if this is the only way to play the game.

Ditto.

That, and they'll probably only include half of the content they've created in the full game and then force you to buy a bunch of DLC in order to get functionality that already existed in previous games. It worked with The Sims 3, so there's no reason not to now that there's a precedent.

Am I the only one that liked the high-level stuff in Simcity 2000? It was fun to just plop down some stuff and watch what happened, while later games really seemed to turn on forced micro-management just to have any chance of having any fun with the game.

I enjoyed it. It was fun to set up things in new ways and see how it would explode~

With micromanaging it takes a lot of effort to set self-destruction in motion without turning down the funds for roads/fire/police.

does Will Wright have anything to do with this? If not, I'm a bit skeptical. I have the feeling he is mostly responsible for why 2k, as well as other games such as SimTower (my favorite Sim of all time) were as fun as they were to me. I heard there's a GBA version of SimTower and that scares me...a lot. Also has anyone ever tried Yoot Tower or whatever the supposed "sequel" was?

edit: JK Will Wright had nothing to do with SimTower, disregard my ignorance :specialed:

*shrugs* Micromanaging felt like it was the best part of 3000. I try to play 2000 now, and I can only go for 5 minutes before getting bored and quitting.

Makes me want to get 4, but I've yet to find a legit copy and because of all the hullabaloo right now would rather wait for that to die down before thinking about downloading the torrent.

The absolute best part of SC3k was the soundtrack. Hands down.

The game itself was pretty damn fun, though.

Good news: it will be available outside of Origin.

Bad news: doesn't matter because you need to always be connected to Origin just to play the damn game.

Good job, EA!

This sounds vaguely like games that require Steam except Steam isn't Origin and isn't nearly as awful.

And I'm guessing that Origin doesn't have any sort of offline mode or anything either.

Well when I mean always connected to Origin, I mean it is required to have an Internet connection in order to play the game, regardless of what you are doing.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood did this I believe (or one of the games did) and on day 1 the game was unplayable due to crashed servers.

Even with Origin they require you to be always-on? Good grief.

I'll just stick to 2000.

I wonder if EA is trying to encourage piracy of their games, or if they're just that stupid.

Still gonna buy it.

Also, if those images in cpubasic's link are representative of the final look of the game, my computer is going to ignite when I try to run it.

Most people won't care. It's extra control for them and they'll get away with it.

If you don't like what they are doing, don't fucking play the game. Pirating it tells EA "Well, you are all entitled shits, so why should we bother removing DRM or making it easier to play offline? We are losing sales thanks to you!"

Not playing is worse to a business than piracy. Piracy just shows that you will play it but don't want to pay for it, further telling the companies that pulling this crazy stunt is acceptable to get people to buy it. Not playing it at all shows that whatever they did is completely unacceptable and made their product worthless.
