You know what this mean, guys?
For those underage to buy soda... Hoard all of your favorite pop in a location and make sure there's enough until you become legal to buy soda. That's the solution! Seriously, though, that's a bit excessive for me to imagine, but I suppose it is something that can happen in the future. Soon or later, we'll find drinking water isn't allowed. ![]() ____________________ Layout code stolen from the_casualty! |

Personally, I'm wary simply because America seems to have this holy war on HFCS yet every other country that doesn't use it in any notable amount is having the same things happen. |

Sugar will be regulated as a toxin, so more high-fructose corn syrup for all? ![]() ____________________ |

| Just for the confused - anything ending in -ose is a sugar.
Glucose Sucrose Fructose Galactose Lactose. etc. But the sugars we commonly consume in our diet are sucrose (table sugar), glucose (sugar form used by the brain), fructose (fruit/vegetable sugars) and lactose/galactose (milk sugars). |

Originally posted by Skreeny This is funny because out of all my schools, only one had potentially unhealthy vended items, and that was an ice cream vendor that was only turned on and filled during the warmer days. Even then students rarely bought anything from it. Originally posted by Skreeny I agree with this. But what kind of incentives would be used? And how would they manage/support them? ____________________ |

I just watched my region's news, Global BC, and they talked about sugar being banned or regulated as a toxin, and to my surprise, they brought up it being banned to those under 17.
What do I think about it? Hey, only half a year to go when I can buy soda. I can live for that long.
Seriously, though... If they're going to ban pop, they might as well ban candy, variants of ice cream, anything that has toxic sugar in them. Although, I thought having sugar in your system in moderation was good for growing up. ____________________ Layout code stolen from the_casualty! |

| Obviously the issue is that team Galactose and their overweight cats are trying to poison us all with harmful consumer goods :specialed:
While sugar may be harmful in large amounts, shouldn't the decision to cut back be left to the dieter? It's entirely possible to have a diet with only moderate to low amounts of extra sugars, and really...it's not like the facts aren't right there on the box as to how much sugar content is there. I can't imagine how regulating this as a toxic substance is going to go well for anyone as the majority of people simply aren't going to understand where they are coming from. |

| Uh, High fructose corn syrup is essentially sugar syrup. |

| I don't even know what grape jelly is.
If this sort of regulation went through and doesn't include forms of sugar other than table sugar it's essentially toothless. I mean, I know it's from the country where pizza sauce = vegetables, but even so. |

Paulguy's Post configuration I prefer my jelly to be jam or preserves, where it actually has something resembling fruit in it. Also high fructose corn syrup isn't chemically more dangerous than table sugar/sucrose. It's just cheaper, and for many applications doesn't taste as good, not that overprocessed white sugar tastes fantastic anyway. Would be nice to see more foods with lesser processed, browner sugars. Very robust taste in comparison, just for some reason, much more costly. ____________________ |
