Only protect IP left then.

Edit: Actually, he is just SAYING he will cut it out, not that it has been done. So... yeah. V_v;

So basically...
  • SOPA isn't dead, just reduced in severity
  • The change hasn't actually been made, only promised (hey, didn't they promise to veto NDAA too?)
  • PIPA is still a threat
  • Protect IP is still a threat
  • NDAA is still law

It's hard to see this as anything other than an attempt to pretend to appease us.

I saw PIPA and was thinking something like "Prevent Internet Piracy Act"

On PIPA: It got gutted, too. Relevent quote:

The domain name blocking provision, as set forth in SOPA, would effectively censor foreign websites found hosting any amount of pirated content by requiring American ISP's to block access to them. In addition, the provision reportedly could have interfered with the DNSSEC, which helps protect the DNS system from attack.

Rep. Smith stated that the provision would remain tabled until the Congressional Judiciary Committee has had an opportunity to "further examine the issues." The Senate removed similar language from its competing Protect IP Act yesterday.

Meanwhile, the SOPA hearing for next Wednesday has been indefinitely delayed to address "outstanding concerns." Watch as it slowly rots away in committee!

Well I think that's that.

Good to hear PIPA and SOPA aren't really "threats" anymore.

Actually just read that both bills practically need to be rewritten from scratch before ever being taken seriously thanks to the online petition that has been around for months.

See what happens when shit gets done by the people?

The Internet is safe for now, and that is a very good thing.

The White House responds, which resulted in Rupert Murdoch having a shit-fit on Twitter.

And now it is the dead. Quite a shocking turn of events to say the least. All that's left now is PIPA.

EDIT: Alternate link.

Now everyone should train their protests on PIPA and destroy it, too. Maybe even turn it on the DMCA next. Ifthis outrage is truly this powerful, then it's about time all the bills like this were destroyed.

Piracy is an issue, but all the dumbheaded bills need to implode and be replaced with ones which actually match reality.

SOPA isn't dead. They just froze it, and I would not be surprised to see it make a comeback after the elections.

Though if the right people are elected, it might come up only to die a second death.

I like the whole part of "foreign thieves" they keep saying all the time, considering which people the bill will effect the most.

Well, I was not really expecting this bill to go down that easy.

like see, i'm concerned for different reasons. one: i can't pirate music. that's some bullshit. two: freedom of speech etc. but not concerned enough to do much about it. other than sign a petition or whatever. i'm sure it won't pass with this much goddamned protest. i mean google and wikipedia are blackin' out. i think that says something.

MPAA called the blackouts an "abuse of power."

Yeah... about that...
