Can you like, download Windows 3.0 or it has to be the actual software itself from 1990?
... Yes, I'm implying that I want to check out how it goes on my non-primary computer. :V

You can probably find a pirate version, but if you want to put it on an actual computer, you may as well go with windows 3.11 or even 95 if it'll take it. If you can get on the technet downloads site, you can get sha1sums if you log in with any "live" account, including possibly xbox live. That way, you can determine that your downloads haven't been tampered with.

If you wanted I could post from OS/2. It's really easy.

Apparently OS/2 still has a lot of fans around... which is kind of surprising to me, really. Maybe I'm missing something...

OS/2 at least promised to be more stable than what Microsoft did. Those who hated Microsoft but wanted compatibility with Windows apps could, for a time, just use OS/2 instead.

Some parts of the French train system, as I recall, still run on OS/2.

I am posting from Windows 2000 Professional, but running in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 on a Windows 7 Ultimate host machine.
I TOTALLY did not realize that it would be compatible with my Wi-Fi.

I posted from Windows 2000 Professional... when I was using it as my main OS. (I'm not old! I swear!)

I wonder if the WiFi works because of something Virtual PC is doing, though? (Though we used WiFi on Windows 2000, we had to install drivers from the manufacturer of the WiFi antenna and such)

Paulguy's Post configuration
If you're connecting to the internet from the virtual machine, it emulates it's own network card, and routes everything through your OS's networking through the network device. Whether it's wifi or not is invisible, as long as it provides a route to a network, or the internet. However, if it's USB wifi, you can probably access the device from in the virtual machine if your VM software has that functionality. Some drivers that support windows 2000 will provide their own wireless control software.

Reminds me of how when I was younger in the 90's I really wanted one of those "pocket PC" things, it seemed like the best idea ever. (In the days before Wi-Fi, though, I wonder how useful it would have been?)

We need to go deeper.
Too bad no machine could probably go deeper without crashing halfway through posting.

Virtualizing virtualization probably doesn't work so well, but you can probably do stuff like running bochs in bochs.

Actually, virtualization under virtualization is rather stable.

CHALLENGE: Post from Windows CE, emulated on Windows XP, virtualized on Windows 7, virtualized on your personal favourite flavour of Linux.

Wow! I did not know that my post would turn this thread into a thread about virtual machines!
Also, I did not get drivers to make my WiFi work on Windows 2000.
I just chose to connect to the network as a LAN connection (duh, it it a LAN connection) and it worked fine after that.

Now I have the urge to use a server PC with loads of money DDR3 RAM and attempt Windows 3.11 within Win98 within WinXP within Win7 within Gentoo.

The world may implode, though.

>>ESTABLISHING LINK...DONE.    >>FETCHING POST DATA...DONE.    >>EXECUTING POSTDISP.BIN...

Hrm, I tried posting from a Windows Mobile 2003 PDA, but it didn't work. Opera Mini doesn't let me log into Jul and just forwards me to the next page as if I were logged in - meaning the login page boots me to the index, and the new reply page back to the thread...

Oh well, it works reasonably well for most other pages, so I guess the browser just doesn't like Acmlmboards? Plus this wouldn't have been anything special for the purpose of this thread anyway. Looking forward to see CE on XP on 7 on Linux

I once posted from Telnet, but with all the bot/spammer/idiot checks in place now, I'd probably end up tripping one if I tried that again.
