Technically, I think the format for a cinquain is this:

Noun.
Two words descriptive of said noun.
Line 1 discussing said noun in some way.
Line 2 discussing said noun in some way.
Another noun that somehow relates to the first noun.

I'm not sure they're even a valid form of poetry, just something that high school English teachers made up to torture their students.

Actually, we never did that much poetry... most of our English classes were devoted to novels. Good stuff too, like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Pretty much this to a T. We'd write some poetry if our readings around that time were Shakespeare plays or poems and stuff.

Um...I honestly didn't even know what a cinquain was until this thread.

Then again, my english classes were about people going to school by bus while I was pretty much self-teaching myself (actually my teacher supported me a lot, giving me exams and stuff), so I kinda skipped over the cinquains part.

Though my actual language classes did feature similar things. I didn't really like those.
