(note: I know that there's a thread about recent purchases, but this thread is more about asking advice than bragging about [x] )

A friend of mine's birthday is coming up in a couple of days, so I decided to go to Game Stop to pick up a gift card for him.

As I was waiting in line, I noticed the PS2 bargain bin. There was a special going on, "Buy 2 get 2 Free", in correspondence with the buy 2 get 1 free special going on throughout the store. Since the PS2 is getting pretty aged, the games were all pretty cheap. That said, the system is full of really good games, so I snagged the opportunity to grab a couple of gems I've wanted for a while.

For $10, I got

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (I played the one for the NDS and I really liked it)

Xenosaga: Episode 2 (I've already played and beaten Episode 1)

dotHack (I'm relatively new to the series, I've seen some snippets of the anime but that's about it)

Ico (I've played Shadow of the Colossus and was recommended this)

So, which one should I play first? All of these games are fairly long and I know I'm going to get invested in each of them, but I'm having a really hard time deciding which one I should start with.

I vote Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. I was told it was a really great game to get invested into, as a new PS3 owner. I guess that'd be a good game to start with. Honestly, I've never actually checked out other games except for Xenosaga, and I would've suggested that if you still remember Episode 1, but I wasn't sure if you did or not.

DISGAEA: HOUR OF DARKNESS!

It's not really important, but which dotHack is it?

All of them are great mind you, but I'm curious. I'd say Disgaea or dotHack. I'm not really a huge fan of Xenosaga, and Ico is a game you really have to want to play before playing it I feel.

Isn't Disgaea DS a remake of the first Disgaea for PS2? In which case since you've already played the DS one, I'd probably play Ico, I've heard nothing but good things about it at least... (but haven't played it)

If you want a quick game, Ico. If you want to sink a LOT of time into something... Disgaea.

Play Ico, it's short, it's a masterpiece, and it's good for you.

Then after that I'd do Xenosaga if the story is just fresh in your head and if then either .Hack or Disgaea.

But you already had played the DS version soooooo.

Um...
Ico -> Xenosaga -> .hack -> Disgaea

Ico is a short very good game, so you want to play it first as the rest are all longer and more consuming.

Xenosaga... I know nothing of it, but you played the previous one so you might as well get back to something you know better after playing Ico and continue the story or whatever.

.hack I know even less of, but again alternating what you know and don't I think would be a good thing.

Disgaea is a time and dedication vortex and you want it last if you want to play something else.
