Some time in the next few years (if I had to guess, based on the forum not really dying any more than it already has over the last few months) the What's-On-Your-Mind thread will hit 65,536 posts sometime in the next 6 years.

It'll be interesting to see what happens then, but if I had to guess the only interesting thing will be that the page counter ceases to function properly.

I vaguely remember back in 2009, people thought that WOYM (or Jul Pub?) would close after 10000 posts.

I think it was 500. I remember reading a thread with some really cool SMB3 GG codes, and people were bumping it to stop it from being deleted due to being too old, but they also worried about the 500-reply limit.

Same. Pretty much all news sites delete articles more than a few months old, which breaks all kinds of links in threads all over the Internet.

Seriously. Hard drive space is cheap. You don't have to go deleting files like it's 1985.

I know some sites justified closing large threads (and I mean as low as 1000 posts) on the grounds of performance issues- I guess Jul doesn't have those, or at least not at anything to be worried about, given the point WOYM has reached.

In my experience news sites are nowadays more likely to put old articles behind a paywall than to delete it outright... either way makes it inaccessible to me, though. And yeah, forums that delete old posts are annoying... it's nice to be able to look through the archives.

There was the view count in threads too, where the Jul Pub reached early on the whatever cap and then got just hacked in as "a lot", before displaying the correct number.
