I was going to say something about Something Awful (but got beaten), but generally the $10 I spent there has been more or less worth it, mostly for the expansive Let's Play community (I find it best when you avoid the other areas).

SA only gets away with it because they're a giant community that's existed for over a decade, though. Most other places just have subscriptions available but not required (e.g. Reddit)
