Hi. I'm working on a hack of ALTTP called Triforce Of The Gods. Anyone familiar with localization of games knows ALTTP went through some changes. TCRF has some pretty great info on it: http://tcrf.net/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_A_Link_to_the_Past_(SNES)#Program_revision_differences

Knowing this, I came to the conclusion that I could easily use Hyrule Magic to pop out the term "wizard" and pop in the word "priest." However, with time I discovered the Japanese script has some vast changes. The flow is much cleaner, the tone is a bit darker, the story a little bit more detailed. So I replaced the entire script. (Minus a handful different NPC interactions, signs)

I also received some help altering the title screen from a nice guy named devin on TCRF irc. Thanks devin! The title screen is now black like the Japanese counterpart, and the flash/sword/sword noise has been removed. I felt the simple title of the Japanese version felt better. Less is more and all that. I have not altered the text of the title, as I have been unable to thus far. Tried using Hyrule Magic, but each time I imported 16 color graphics it destroys the title entirely. If anyone has ideas of how to change the title text to "Triforce of the Gods" I'd really appreciated it.

There also a number of things I'm probably NOT going to fix, such as:



English menu, Japanese, Japanese. English obviously superior here. Also Japanese version only allows 4 characters

Things left to do:
#1 Change the title screen text to read "triforce of the gods." I'll probably have to hire someone up to do that.
#2 Go through the game on a few playthroughs to locate the areas where the text passes it's threshold and dumps into the next line.
#3 locate these graphics and replace the bastardized English version: (Haven't found them in TLP after much searching)



#4 get a number of text lines translated that I haven't found translations for. Which I'll post in TCRF's japanese thread. Here's a copy of my work thus far:

Ah, a retranslation? Looks nice. I think the lower version of the title is easier to read.

Would something like this be possible to do? I don't know why, but I like it more. I'm aware I quickly cheated with the subtitle and just threw on a 1 pixel Photoshop border which has anti-aliasing and whatnot (On top of not bothering to fix the Triforce where the text once was), but I'm low on time before work today.

WAY too much work for too little gain, I'm afraid. Changing just the subtitle alone took a couple of hours, due to a lack of graphics space (part of the "Z" had to be redrawn in order to reuse tiles), infuriating bugs in Hyrule Magic (clicking a tile would often change other tiles on the same line), and stupid quirks in the game itself (which half of the palette a tile uses depends on which bank it's stored in).

Of course, that doesn't mean that other people can't try. I just refuse to touch it again.

I tried the title too using hyrule tragic and got so pretty piss poor results. I actually like the lower title with the modifications bmf did, so I think I'm sticking with that.

Nice project, I like your decision of getting rid of the sword and background elements from the title screen, less is more. I would definitely go with the lower one and what BMF did to the title screen is pretty much perfect IMO, I love it, good job!

Could "Of the Knight Clan-bloodline shall that one be." be an better alternative? English isn't my first language so maybe my grammar is wrong but "Of the bloodline of the
Knight Clan shall that one be." sounds a little awkward to me.
