Exactly how video games influence individuals is a hotly debated topic, but for the first time, Movement partners discussed our role and responsibility to take action against violations of IHL in video games,” the Red Cross wrote in its daily bulletin.

...I generally expect people older than myself to also be smarter than myself... I should really stop.

What the fuck.

You're not ending real human lives, you're just flipping bits and bytes in a computer that symbolize that various video-game enemies are in a "dead" state. Sounds to me like someone wants to blame the world's ills on video games. Again.

People will blame games for everything because it's just an easy scapegoat or something, nothing new

I didn't quite expect this out of the Red Cross, though. Weird.

The article is a bit confusing to me- at times it seems like "well we'd like to see them not portray this", which is not great but just the usual "clearly nobody can tell the difference between doing something in video games and doing it in real life, so don't even show it in a game" stuff. And then you have quotes like this:

The Red Cross said if it finds the conventions have been violated, they may ask game developers to conform to international laws or encourage governments to create laws that regulate the gaming industry, Kotaku reported.

Which seem to imply that the game companies are somehow violating the international laws, and that's just baffling.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Is it just Australia's News Corporation branch? If so, it specifically is fox news.

Well, I suppose that explains "Call of Duty: World of Warfare" and "Does killing zombies in Resident Evil would count as a war crime? It would be a crime not to win, surely. Picture: Infinity Ward / Activision" (double whammy there, heh).

Lack of fact checking, as usual.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but that's the kind of thing I would expect from *any* news source nowadays, not just Fox-level ones...

Yep. More embarrasingly, News Corp originated in Australia.

Well well well. Are they really intending to hire a "war criminal" for the next 9 months then?

(Meaning that I'll be working for the Red Cross 9 months from January on. And I'm a gamer. And I'm only 18.)

And here's a much more reasonable-sounding explanation.

Of course, it's the Huffington Post, but hey.
