So I was trying to register on a larger RC Drifting forum to ask a few technical questions. I found DRC Central and proceeded to register. After activation, it wants me to "Select a subscription package" that costs $5 and I can't post until I do so... I can understand making revenue from a forum through ads (not unlike here), but requiring a fee to register/post? Fail.

I once tried to register at a board with mandatory admin approval. Problem was, the admin stopped approving any new accounts

This isn't that uncommon, actually... the first board I joined I remember being exactly like this, actually.

I guess it depends on the level of bots/idiots or such that occur...

And even if the admin does approve accounts, they tend to take a while, so it goes like this:

- I see the board and lurk
- I find something I want to reply to, so I register
- Derp, admin approval. Hopefully it'll be quick.
(5 days later)
- I get an E-mail about being approved. Now where the fuck was that thread I wanted to reply to?

They had 3 mandatory questions for this, "Spell the name Keira in the box below", "What does your username mean?" and "What is your first name and last initial?" and then a kaptcha with random letters + a real word... They're taking anti-bot methods a little far.
