Paypal is acting like disgusting scum.

Discuss.

Paulguy's Post configuration
They like to hold on to stuff as long as they can. They invest your money like a bank would, but don't pay back interest, and aren't responsible if they just lost it all. What's worse is a boycott wouldn't do shit since they're part of ebay, and way too many people use ebay. So I guess ecommerce is just fucked.

Yeah, that happened to me once. Luckily, there were only $5 in that account, so I said screw it and keep the forced donation, Paypal.

However, that's crazy. Donate to cats, not kids. That makes sense. We want the cat population to surpass the humanity race. I'm sure they want to do that because of that reason.

Paypal has since unfrozen the funds, reportedly.

I'd wait for verification on that from Regretsy. Paypal would not be my first choice for "accurate" news.

In the meantime, Paypal has issued a statement saying they have made a donation and they are working with me, but I have not spoken to anyone yet. I will let you know when I do.

God, if Paypal didn't have it's batterwitch hand in everything online, I'd switch to some other online payment site.

Bitcoin WAS one, but it kinda imploded in on itself.

I can understand being concerned about laws or something, maybe there are tax reasons, but it's pretty shocking how blunt the representative is- the cat quote, and the whole sense of "if you do anything to try to raise money for these kids we will stop you muahahahaha"...

Of course, PayPal is a borderline monopoly... so they will do what they want. Good to see them backpedaling, but really it shouldn't take the outrage of half the internet to have them say "hey maybe we should try and work something out".

Keep in mind this was just one representative, who does not necessarily reflect the mentality and opinion of the entirety of Paypal. That said, I'm hoping said representative loses his/her job because of this. That's not the kind of person I would want representing my company.

Having seen Paypal do this to repeated other charities, all I can say is never use paypal.

I'm still rather at a loss as to why anyone uses Paypal after all the bullshit they pull like this.

Near monopoly, and any other site that does this is so unknown that they might as well be hipster sites.

Plus very little sites actually use those alternative sites anyway.

Google Checkout is actually on the move up at the moment, and whilst Google may not be the most reputable of companies, I'd sure as hell trust them more than Paypal.

I still prefer just manually entering my CC info each time without it saving though.

It's not democracy, it's DiGiorno.

PAYPAL: I’m not going to argue with you.

PAYPAL: We know what you’re doing and we’re through playing games with you.

PAYPAL: You aren’t going to be able to get around this. It’s too late, we know what you’re trying to do and we’re not going to let you do it.

No one above me will talk to you. No one at my level ever makes phone calls.

WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING

It'd be nice if they fired that moron over this.

Also this.

The account was unfrozen though and allowed to do the donation thing and all went well in the end, but damn.

Generally once a stupid decision like this gathers enough bad press, they'll back down.

This is not the first time I've heard of Paypal trying to stop charity work, really.

However, the vile attitude of the employee? That's new.
